Pros
The job and work is easy . The company is a equal opportunity employer and benefits is good .
Cons
The company has a fast turn around rate for employees . If you do not speak Spanish or have any form of Spanish or Latin heritage. You will not be there that long. The company management team and leads all have latin background. The shifts are segregate between Spanish operators and everyone else. With 85 % of Spanish operators on days shift . This issue is causing problems with training and employee's moderation ; due Spanish attitudes .

Pros
This was a great place. Young professionals located in an idealistic setting. Fun and creativity were rewarded, but this all started to wane as the company was being prepped for JNJ acquisition. Most of the people who were competent and left the company within 2 years of the acquisition. There is still opportunity here if you live in Santa Barbara and it's worthwhile to explore to get a Fortune 100 company on your resume. If you have a MBA (regardless of experience) you will probably be OK, just prepared to be fired within 2 years time as priorities shift.
Cons
Process heavy, bureaucracy, and constantly shifting management (and management layers) keeps everyone guessing when the next round of lay offs will strike. No one is safe. This is a company that can't figure out how to operate or who it is, and as an added bonus JNJ can't really figure out where the heck it fits in their portfolio of companies. Prepare for regular management & employee cullings to deal with botched numbers or ever shifting focus.

Pros
Mentor was a great, forward thinking company. Work was fun and the people were fun. They make great products and are a leader in their field.
Cons
Johnson and Johnson bought the company back in 2010 or so and the atmosphere tanked. The pressure hit the management and the stress just rolled down hill. Also, when asked if Lay offs and if the company would be moving they denied it right up to the day the lay offs were announced. Then they moved out of Santa Barbara. The J&J Credo is a document they follow that carries a cult-like following. It's actually a little creepy how much they cram this thing down your throat.

Pros
Competitive pay if you work "upstairs". Lots of social interaction if you get in with the right crowd. Comfortable office environment. Access to company discounts. If you're new to SB, start here since everyone has worked at Mentor. Build a network then start applying to other jobs after you make a year. Having JNJ will look good on your resume. If you're currently on your >3 year of employment, start looking for work cause that ax will come.
Cons
JNJ acquisition brought the cut-throat mentality of the East to the laid back culture of the West. You either need to learn how to swim with sharks or keep your head just low enough to kiss management's you-know-what.

Pros
Very complex and changing environment and business structure. People were very good to work with and very supportive of the team environment.
Cons
Very complex and changing environment, so do not go if you want something easy and stable because management will push you at almost every level.

Pros
The company is growing. Most of the co-workers were really nice and helpful people. The workplace is kept very clean.
Cons
This company is now owned by Johnson and Johnson/Ethicon. This is an enormous, multi-billion dollar international corporation. The pay for the managers is excellent for the hours they put in. The pay for the support staff, who also must put in those long hours, is far from competitive - especially considering the expectations.

Pros
People are genuinely friendly and seeing that everyone for the most part is around the same age, it can be a fun place to work. Young professionals 20's to mid-forties. They have some morale building functions such as employee appreciation day where they bus everyone up to Santa Ynez for wine tasting and a party. They have full disclosure luncheons where they review company performance. The location can't be beat. Gym and locker facilities that all back up to bike trails that lead to the beach. Paradise. The facilities are nice as well. I had an office with french doors and ordered whatever office furniture I wanted.
Cons
It is amateur hour at Mentor. There are people who have been there for ages and have risen through the ranks despite their performance. This may be because Santa Barbara is a hard place to find talented experienced workers (very expensive location) so those that are there never leave. As a company they are very risk adverse and take forever to make a decision. They purchase technology and then do nothing with it such as the case with Byron Medical. They bought the company, invested in building up brands, fired their sales force to kill the brand, then changed their mind to re-invest and build it back up again. As a consequence they have missed opportunities and have lost talented people. Now that Johnson & Johnson owns Mentor it has become very bureaucratic and process heavy which further kills progress and creativity. They rely too heavily on their implant business and do not offer a diversified portfolio of products. They have a lot of cash but not much on innovation. Same old technology. Breast implants are almost a commodity. Not much difference between the competition Allergan. Any new players out there?
