Golf Cleat Inventor Tees Off On Softspikes Patents

Law360 (September 2, 2009, 1:39 PM EDT) -- An inventor of technology used in golf cleats has hit Softspikes LLC with an infringement suit alleging the company breached a contract between the parties when it halted royalty payments owed to him for five patents obtained by using his inventions.

John J. Curley accused the golf cleat manufacturer along with its parent company Pride Manufacturing Inc. of misappropriating trade secrets and infringing four of Curley's existing patents in applying for its own patents related to footwear cleats between July 2002 and April 2005 without naming him as an inventor, according to the complaint lodged Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
