Keep you busy, pay ontime and you can take your truck home. Very helpfull.
Truck Driver Class A (Former Employee) - Cuba, AL - March 19, 2024
Very little night driving. normal sriving all day and sleeping your truck at night. They have great training process. four weeks of training, four weeks OTR with a trainer, then a week back for trainning, then you are on your own. Management is fine, work culture is safety first. Hardest part of the job is what ever you make it. the most enjoyable part is taking my truck home and not having to drive to my POV.
Pros
updated equipment
Cons
they dont use Peterbuilts or Kenworths

Jobs at McElroy Truck Lines
Challenging but rewarding
Driver (Current Employee) - Shepherdsville, KY - January 20, 2024
As they say flatbed is not for everyone. You work an hour a day folding and lifting tarps and securing your load but it beats being in a factory all day. Great company and good people just wish my equipment was a little better

It's ok
Driver (Current Employee) - Pleasant Hill, NC - January 19, 2024
Haven't had much experience, driver mentors suck had to request a new one and only got a slightly better one. Constantly waiting for loads but hey the industry is down all around.

McElroy Truck Lines insights
What people like
- Supportive environment
- Clear sense of purpose
- Ability to learn new things
it’s okay overall. But just like any job, you don’t matter in the end.
Flatbed Truck Driver (Former Employee) - Cuba, AL - January 17, 2024
Great company. Show you they care. OTR trainers suck. Free healthcare is lie. Their insurance UNUM is a pain in the butt. Dispatch sometimes forget about you and blame you for their mishaps. If you’re separated for “administrative leave” whether it’s injury or whatever the cause may be, they won’t hire you back.

Excellent company for recent graduates. Fair company over all
CDL Class A Driver (Former Employee) - Pleasant Hill, NC - December 11, 2023
Fair company, if you do what they say in training, you have nothing to worry about. Excellent company for recent graduates. After doing flatbed don’t want to drive a Van. Had to leave the company because of relocation to South Florida. Pay is fair, if you’re coming from school pay and what you learn is perfect combination.
Pros
No micro management, always somebody available to help you, Benefits package
Cons
Driver lounge outdated

Great for beginners
Company Driver (Current Employee) - Alma, TX - November 28, 2023
If you’re new great place to come to, if you like being home on weekends great place to come to. Pay Varys, but overall communication 8.5/10. There’s no lease to own option in Texas which I was told there was, but hey people recruit with lies and truths you have to get in and figure out what lies were told and what truths were actually true.

Pay sucks, always do the same pick and drop, Fleet management never have answers to problems, equipment is trash and slow, and only good thing is you are home every Friday.

For new truckers
Very good starting job if you just got your cdl license they will teach you a lot of safe tips and how to be safe on the road but if you don’t like being away from home for a week this. It for you

Great company
Driver (Former Employee) - Texas - September 3, 2023
Good people, honest, always respected. Work hard and you will do fine with them. They get all drivers home on Friday , if you get home on Saturday it's either something you did wrong or something out of dispatchers control (weather, breakdown, etc.) They have some dedicated and day cab positions in certain areas.

Good work, Good people.
Truck Driver (Former Employee) - Alabama - August 23, 2023
The people there are pretty great. As long as you have the drive to show up everyday and learn from them they will take care of you. You are guaranteed home time every weekend. I've never had issues with them requesting time off. Truly a great place to work.
Pros
Free lunch during orientation week. And hotel rooms.
Cons
Long work days during orientation.

Great local job with plenty of freight
Truck Driver Class A local (Former Employee) - Cuba, AL - August 10, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Off by Friday afternoon until Sunday afternoon Good pay What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Tarping in bad weather Some trailers are difficult to hook to What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Dispatchers are often hard to reach What is a typical day like for you at the company? I drove local, so usually started at 2 or 3 am. Tarped load for delivery and drove for 2 or 3 hours to a Lowe’s store. Then removed tarps and straps and waited for them to unload. Then it’s back to distribution center for a second load or a load for the next day. Typically, I went home around 3 or 4pm.

Get the training, and move on. Pay isn’t worth being gone for a week
Cdl-a Driver (Former Employee) - Pleasant Hill, NC - August 9, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Home time and training. Pay is terrible What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Dealing with dispatchers who don’t know what it’s like being away from home and family. Trying to make them understand the impound being home as early as possible on Friday since we leave out at various times Sunday What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Toxic to say the least. Definitely needs improvement What is a typical day like for you at the company? Wake up, listen to fleet managers give you some sad excuse about the low paying loads, deliver, pick up and do it all over the next day

Disappointing Company On It's Way Out
Regional Dedicated Driver (Former Employee) - Hagerstown, MD - August 5, 2023
McElroy used to be a very good company to work for when I started driving. This is very quickly no longer becoming the case. There is absolutely no screening process for new hires before the start of training, which has lead to some very undesirable drivers joining the company. This has lead to many accidents and similar incidents pinned onto the fleet as a whole, and the driver mentors, for issues that begin at the top. The company is quickly losing contracts in areas and firing drivers for little to no reason as they downsize to make space, but will tell drivers it is for any little "mishap" they can drum up as being fireable. They can choose to fire you because they woke up on the wrong side of the bed if they wish. Adding AI powered, facial recognition driver facing cameras to trucks. I got out before I was next. Be warned, steer clear.
