Hazen DuMarce Sr. entered into eternal rest on March 17, 2008 after a lengthy illness at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services for Hazen DuMarce were held on Thursday, March 20, 2008, at St. Catherine's Hall in Sisseton, SD. Pastor Mike Simon, Pastor Filmore Simon, Pastor Clifford Chanku and Lay Reader Gerald Heminger Jr. officiated. An all night wake was held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at St. Catherine's Hall. Interment with military rites was held at Mayasan Cemetery in Veblen, SD. Honorary Casket Bearers were Waylon DuMarce, Marlon Troy DuMarce, Hazen DuMarce Jr., Perry Lufkins, Wayne White, and all of Hazen's hunting, trapping and Moccasin playing friends and relatives. Casket Bearers were Bruce DuMarce, Leland Fryer, Wade DuMarce, Leonard DuMarce, Pernell White, Scott DuMarce, Kyle Kampeska and Randy White.

Hazen DuMarce Sr. was born March 6, 1938 to Samuel DuMarce Sr. and Eva Ella Robertson DuMarce. Hazen attended Wahpeton Indian School until his junior year, then returned home to help on the farm.

Shortly after returning home, he enlisted in the United States Army serving in Germany for one year, before returning home where he lived out the rest of his life.

He loved to hunt deer and water fowl, trap mink and play Moccasin with his brothers, sons, and nephews. They were well known in South Dakota, North Dakota and Canada for their lengthy and intense games, winning many championships over the years. He loved visits from all his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by brother, Sampson DuMarce Sr.; his sisters, Clarine Everette, Florine Garcia, June Blanton and Lily Renville; his sons, Bruce DuMarce, Russ Quinn, Pernell, Troy and Wayne White, Kyle Kampeska and Hazen DuMarce Jr.; his daughters, Lynnette DuMarce, Lynnelle Stickland, Rochelle Bernard, Julia DuMarce, Clarine DuMarce and Kari DuMarce; and by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal parents; long time companion, Ramona Ryan; a son, Craig DuMarce; brothers, Sam, Alec, Samuel Jr., Soloman and Elijah DuMarce; sisters, Lucy DuMarce LaCroix and Agnes DuMarce.
