RIVERHEAD CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION
REGULAR BOARD MEETING & PUBLIC HEARING ON PROPOSED PROPERTY TAX EXEMPTION -
The Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District will hold a regular meeting on
Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Riverhead High School, Room #123, 700 Harrison
Avenue, Riverhead, New York. After the meeting is opened to the public, the Board will
immediately recess to executive session until approximately 7:00 p.m. at which time they will
reconvene into open session in the Riverhead High School Auditorium, 700 Harrison Avenue,
Riverhead, New York;
AND,
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to New York Real Property Tax Law section 458-a of
the State of New York, a public hearing will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, 7:00 p.m.
prevailing time at the Riverhead High School Auditorium located at 700 Harrison Avenue,
Riverhead, New York at which time and place the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central
School District will propose to consider: 1) whether it should adopt a resolution which would
authorize a partial real property tax exemption to certain qualified veterans residing within the
Riverhead Central School District pursuant to the recently amended New York Real Property
Tax Law section 458-a, and 2) whether it should adopt a resolution which would authorize a
partial real property tax exemption to Gold Star parents residing within the Riverhead Central
School District pursuant to New York Real Property Tax Law section 458-a. The public hearing
shall be held at the time and place stated herein.

The meeting will be called to order by the President or Vice President of the Board of Education.




Recess to Executive Session for discussion involving the medical, financial, credit or employment history of a particular
person or corporation or matters leading to the appointment, employment, promotion, demotion, discipline, suspension,
dismissal or removal of a particular person or corporation; and, the proposed acquisition, sale, or lease of real
property or the proposed acquisition, sale, or exchange of securities, but only when publicity would substantially affect
the value of these things.

Public Participation at Board Meetings:

All regular and special meetings of the Board shall be open to the public. Since the Board desires to be a good
listener and be responsive to the community, persons desiring to address the Board may do so during the time so
allotted on the agenda and according to established procedures.

During the audience portion of each Board meeting, patrons are invited by the president to speak for or against
any proposal on the tentative agenda or on any other school concern. The individual is asked to identify his or
herself, limit comments to a few minutes and avoid discussing personalities. The president reserves the right to
limit the number of presentations and/or length of comments, normally 3 minutes. At the discretion of the
president, patrons may be recognized at other times during the Board meeting.

RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District adopts the proposed budget as
presented for the 2014-2015 school year in the total amount of $121,285,298 to be presented to the public at a
budget hearing on May 13, 2014 and subject to approval of the voters on May 20, 2014; and, be it

FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Property Tax Report Card for the 2014-2015 school year be approved.




RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District hereby accepts the 2013-2014 nternal Audit
Report as prepared by Questar BOCES, and authorizes the filing of said report and management responses with the
appropriate New York State authorities.




WHEREAS, New York Real Property Tax Law section 458-a was amended to provide eligible veterans with a real property tax
exemption from school taxes so long as the School District in which the real property is located, after public hearing, adopts a
resolution authorizing the exemption;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE T RESOLVED, that the Board of Education of the Riverhead Central School District hereby authorizes
the application of the Veteran Tax Exemption, to such eligible veterans and to persons designated as "Gold Star Parents, as
contained in New York Real Property Tax Law section 458-a, as amended, and such exemption shall be applicable to school
taxes; and

BE T FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby adopts the basic maximum exemption allowable in Real
Property Tax Law, section 458-a(2) (a), (b) and (c).

School District Budget Vote and Election of Board Members on May 20, 2014:
