      Pros

The management does not breath down your neck while you work. We are treated like adults. Friendly work environment.

      Cons

The company does not like to promote from within. UAs are very seldom trained to be UWs.

        Pros

Legal and compliance people are great.

        Cons

My management changed four times during my time. They hired a new business unit leader that replaced my entire team.

          Pros

Best of both worlds - support of Liberty Mutual Holdings but not a direct part of Liberty Mutual. Growing industry with lots of opportunity. Global operations. Still has a small employees base.

          Cons

Lack of direction & established processes. LIU grew fast and is spread out - each region does things their own way. But that also provides opportunity. Oppressive IT policies. Some managers are good, some not so good. Many new employees come in via headhunters as contractors which may be good or bad; many FT also transfer in from Liberty.

            Pros

Good benefits: Medical PPO (not a large deductible) 401k currently has a 70% match up to 6% Pension Generous PTO (though expect to manage your workflow while on vacation or while sick) Covered paid parking Friendly and helpful co-workers Good combined ratio- profitable company so decent bonuses

            Cons

Limited authority- even with 20+ years of experience. Slow response on anything outside local authority. Limited training, if any- may vary by branch. No support for CE's or Designations- too much time out of the office and/or too much expense. A "we've always done it this way" mentality- not open to new ideas or suggestions. Micro-management -though likely varies by office. No flexible work arrangements Work-life balance minus life balance. You will work some of your PTO.

              Pros

Employees are given autonomy and room to breathe. All Underwriters are specialists and encouraged to think outside the box / take charge of your own success. Management / department heads in general are competent and think like entrepreneurs. Office environment is positive and everyone treats each other with trust and mutual respect. Unlike it's parent Liberty Mutual, this is a pretty flat organization so I see that feedback is taken into account and we see reasonable progress about every 6 months or so. We also have the backing of Liberty Mutual, which helps with resource and marketing. Work/life balance is valued. Benefits are competitive / salary may or not be depending on role.

              Cons

There are no formal training programs and nothing will be handed to you. If you seek out information and perform your job function well, you will be supported.

                Pros

They have both a pension plan and a 401K plan, very rare in this day.

                Cons

Very poor work/life balance. Whatever time you choose, it is not a good time. Promotions re promised, but never occur. It is not unusual to work 60 hours during the week, and be forced to take your laptop how to work on the weekends. Management has already determined raises and bonuses before the review, making this process unnecessary. Management is pathetic from the head on down.

                  Cons

All Consultant contracts for Genius security support and other support functions were eliminated by HR/Planning effective 1/1/14 as part of 2014 planning.

                    Pros

LIU has some good benefits they offer a pension plan not many companies do! Some departments are growing and growing fast!

                    Cons

LIU has poor communication from upper management to their employees. All departments are separate they don't work as a team if one person has the ability to help another team out it takes weeks to get it approved. I could never understand that!

                      Pros

                      - Good compensation and benefits package - Not technically challenging work for an experienced engineer - Good support for external short training and seminars

                      Cons

                      - Poor communication dynamics - Informal work dynamics - Lack of planning - Poor and untrained management team - Informal training programs - Limited career grow - Risk engineering and loss prevention service limited by profits - No consideration of avoided losses for a declined account

                        Pros

Great co-workers. Everyone is willing to share their skills, help team members learn/grow, and improve the process of things. The team I was on also allowed for a flexible work environment and regular opportunities for travel in the course of projects.

                        Cons

The office did not have a particularly lively environment/culture and had limited "community" feel. Job functions were relatively silo'd.

                      Interview Tips

Feel free to post any interview questions you might be asked and I’ll help you compose an effective response :)

                      Operations Director

I have had 2 interviews and now I have a final meeting with the CEO to visit a few services. It’s an area of social care that I have not worked before (LD). My experience is in elderly care. But most of the skills are transferable. Any idea how to prepare for or what to expect. The management seems very open and transparent so far. It’s for the role of operations director in a very reputable social care organisation.

I have an upcoming interview at Deloitte with the hiring manager, and have been told there would be three seperate interviews with different people who would be judging me. It is for the role of Data Visualization Solutions Architect. Can some one who has worked or interviewed at Deloitte for similar roles help me with some tips on how to be best prepared for this, I have been out of work for 6 months now, so really need this to work out. Thanks in advance

                      Project Manager

I am reposting this question with clearer verbiage. I have seen in this forum that interviewees have been asked to complete a project by the hiring manager as part of the interviewing process. I have seen requests like writing code, engineering something, creating a marketing plan for a company product, etc. I am wondering what else folks have been asked to do and if they complied or not. Thanks.
