Biography
James Leo "Jim" Salz, 68, of Lostant, passed away Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Illinois Veterans' Home in LaSalle.
Private graveside services will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Leonore with Rev. Charles McCarthy, pastor of Sts. Peter and Paul Church officiating. Full military rites will be conducted by the Lostant American Legion. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mueller Funeral Home in Lostant.
Mr. Salz was born July 20, 1943 in Streator to Arnold and Helen (Price) Salz.
Mr. Salz was a graduate of Lostant High School. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Leonore. He was proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Germany. He worked as a machinist at Sunstrand in LaSalle for 31 years and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed his work, especially farming with his son but his greatest joy was his family, in particular, his grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter, Kim (Bill) Puetz of Tonica; his son, Steve (Danielle) Salz of Wenona; three grandchildren, Kyle, Kalin and Kennedi Salz; three sisters, Eleanor Kwasneski of Mt. Home, AR and Lois Rowe and Dorothy (George) Hirkala both of Streator and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Tami Salz and his brother, Lester Salz.
Memorials donations may be directed to VITAS Hospice.
