Pros
Great culture, cares about employees, but doesn’t lose sight of business goals. There are good, trustworthy people that work here.
Cons
It can definitely be a slow climb as with most companies this large. Lots of applicants for any promotion and many are deserving.

Pros
Competitive pay, good tech stack
Cons
None that I can think of

Pros
I've worked here for almost 15 years and had a wonderful experience at Liberty for the first 13. Then we switched CEO's and it's been a very abrupt, very rapid downhill slide. Our new CEO's attitude has been announced as profits-first and employees last, and it shows. Unfortunately, there are currently very few "pros" to working here other than a steady paycheck. - Pay is above average for industry - OK work/life balance (considering we have to go in 2 days a week)
Cons
- The new CEO is a 180 change from our prior CEO, implementing many short-sighted decisions designed to oust excellent talent in an effort to save money - Decrease in bonus awards for next year - RTO is currently 2 days a week & likely increasing - RTO inequity for employees living in costly cities with no way to compensate for the increased cost of living + commuting - Constant layoffs - Constant reorganizations resulting in increased workload and lack of role clarity - Politics run rampant amongst leaders and are key decision points when seeking an internal promotion/job change - Sr Leaders are completely tone deaf
11 - 4.0Senior Software DeveloperFormer Employee, more than 10 yearsSeattle, WA
Pros
I worked at Liberty Mutual for a 15+ years. During that time, I was able to transition from an individual Software Development role into a leadership role in agile project management. There were many people who had long careers at Liberty. They invest in employee development and it was usually clear what an individual needed to thrive there. What I loved most were the people I worked with. There was a culture of honesty and collaboration. People were open to help each other through tough times. Everyone respected each other and we knew that people had lives outside of work.
Cons
Liberty is going through a large restructure right now due to less than stellar performance last year. They have cut IT staff in the US significantly especially those in dedicated Scrum Master roles. If you are in the agile project management space - there is definitely a shift away from dedicated Scrum roles at Liberty. I expect they are shifting away from Agile Project Management to something else. This might have to do with shifts in upper management and how they want to restructure the company to suit their vision. Liberty Mutual management may want a slimmer cheaper IT department and cutting labor is the easiest way to get to that.

Pros
Benefits are decent and for a long time it was a great place to work with tons of growth opportunities. I hope one day it can get back to that.
Cons
Rolling layoffs for the last year. No job is safe, even for the newly hired. Our CEO said in a town hall that a 5 year plan is not recommended at this time because so many changes and reorganizations are on the horizon. The corporate speak is out of control, the executive leadership team practically chants “win with purpose together”. And if we don’t, “mediocrity will be punished”. Return to office mandates within 50 miles of a major hub whether you were hired as a remote employee or not. Leadership does not take employee opinion into consideration when making big decisions that affect them.
4 - 5.0Associate AttorneyFormer Employee, more than 1 yearLas Vegas, NV
Pros
Everybody is fair, friendly and treats you with respect. Also, a great place to learn. There was work from home options or in office options at the time, which was nice.
Cons
You’ve got to bill hours. They have personally reasonable requirements but still, billing is no fun. That’s the life of Defense work though.
1 - 1.0Technical Support SpecialistFormer Employee, more than 1 yearPlano, TX
Pros
They have a parking garage and an over priced cafeteria onsite
Cons
You start your day behind the 8-ball. The queue is already 3 digits deep and you have metrics to maintain. You can't get up to use the rest room or grab a drink if you need a minute to recompose yourself after a difficult call. You do that on your scheduled break times. It's call after call after call, The building is massive so you have to sprint in order to get a snack or a drink AND use the restroom in the 15 minute time allotment. Your half hour lunch hardly feels like a break. And when you've busted your hump all month or all year, the appreciate they show is occasional pizza. It's very similar to unalive by a thousand cuts. It was such a high paced high stress position that permanent damage was done to my heart. I had to leave for my health. The pressure of the calls, the pressure of maintaining your metrics and your boss never going to bat for you if there's a dispute with a call really makes for a horrible job.
8 - 4.0Data ScientistCurrent Employee, more than 5 yearsBoston, MA
Pros
Decent pay for the effort required. Flexible WFH days. Plenty of PTO. Pretty good benefits (health insurance, HSA, 401k match, etc). Work won't take over your whole life like it would in some other industries/companies. People respect your personal life (from my experience).
Cons
Like any big company, they don't really care about their people during layoffs. They let people go who have 25+ years at the company are close to retirement and now they have to choose whether they are prepared to retire early or go find another job for the next 5-10 years. The work isn't super thrilling, but it's fine for a corportate job.
