I began teaching in 2004. I taught third grade reading, math, and language arts for 10 years. I taught 5th grade reading and language arts for one year. I am beginning my third year this year as an assistant principal. I really love seeing the curriculum as a whole from my position as an AP and love to help out teachers as needed.
My main goal as a teacher is to ensure that my students enjoy learning and become life long learners as well as readers. I try to make coming to school exciting and fun for students and I do this by teaching students in a variety of different ways to adhere to each type of learner.
I was elected teacher of the year for our elementary school in 2010. I became elementary teacher of the year for our school system and was elected teacher of the year for our system for the 2010-2011 school year. I went on to participate in the Georgia Teacher of the Year competition. I received an outstanding educator award from the retired teachers association.
I have a B.S. degree in early childhood education, a M.S. degree in curriculum and instruction, and an educational specialist degree in elementary education. I am gifted certified and have attended many professional development opportunities. I also have a specialist degree in educational leadership.
Aside from teaching, I am married to a a teacher/coach and have 3 wonderful children. My oldest is going into second grade, and my middle child will be attending Kindergarten this year. Seeing the curriculum from what they will be learning and exciting/engaging ways for them to learn has changed my views as well!
