Kathryn M. “Kaye” Tyler, 84, of Granger, IN, and a former resident of Huntington, IN, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018, at 4 p.m. at her home following an extended illness.
Mrs. Tyler graduated from Galesburg (Illinois) High School, and attended Knox College in Galesburg. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Niles, the South Bend Bridge Club affiliate of the American Contract Bridge Leagueand a former member of the Niles Service League. In Huntington, she became an entrepreneur, owning and operating Letter Perfect Embroidery for 10 years.
She and her husband lived in many locations including Hanover, NH; Aberdeen, MD; Smyrna, DE; Niles, MI; Lucerne, Switzerland; Rye, NH; Chesterland, OH; and Huntington. Most recently, they established a permanent residence in Venice, FL, and summered in Granger.
She was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Peoria, IL, to Neil and Helen Edwards Meriwether. She married Thomas L. Tyler on April 5, 1952, in Monticello, and he survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Terence (Gisele) Tyler, of Danbury, CT; a daughter, Jennifer (Lee Allard) Tyler, of Grand Rapids, MI; two brothers, Peter (Joanne) Spink, of Saint Paul, MN, and George (Joni) Meriwether, of Wildwood, MO; a sister, Jacqueline Meriwether, of Chandler, AZ; a sister-in-law, Anita (Daniel) Meriwether of Longmont, CO; six grandchildren, Kathleen (Eric) Walania, Christine (Scott) Dansereau, Devon Tyler, Stephen Tyler, Lauren Allard and Lindsey Allard; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen N. Tyler, on Nov. 15, 1971.
Calling is Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. in the Tyler Chapel of First Presbyterian Church, 13 S. Fourth St., Niles, MI. Rev. Fran Lane-Lawrence will officiate. Committal will be private, at a later date in the Tyler family block of Silverbrook Cemetery, in Niles, MI.
