Joseph R. Lackey

Joseph Lackey practices exclusively in the fields of Immigration Law and Criminal Defense and loves that the law teaches him something new every day. A graduate of Nova Southeastern School of Law and the University of Barcelona College of Law, Joseph is licensed to practice in the state of Florida, the Federal Southern District of Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Supreme Court, and the country of Spain as well as all member-countries of the European Union. Joseph focuses on deportation litigation and criminal defense and particularly enjoys the intersection between the two. Believing that everyone deserves a second chance, and that no one should be judged on their single worst moment, Joseph has dedicated his career to helping those whose past (or present) pose problems. He is honored to be part of the Somali 92 Team that received AILA’s 2019 Arthur C. Helton Memorial Human Rights Award.

Our Team

Elena Asturias serves as the firm’s Legal Administrator. She has extensive business and human resource management experience coupled with a regulatory compliance background. She has over twenty years of experience working with US Customs and Border Protection. She is responsible for the firm’s operations and staff and dedicates herself to ensuring that the firm’s team is supported in order to deliver high quality legal services to all clients.

Josie Cardozo is the firm’s Business Development and HR Manager. She is a Florida Bar Certified Paralegal with a Degree in Business Management and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management. She has vast experience over a broad spectrum of immigration law, and she is particularly adept at analyzing complex immigration issues and finding the best solution. She has handled VAWA Applications, U-visas, T-visas, waivers, bond motions, as well as TPS and DACA applications. Josie is responsible for client development, community outreach and managing the firm’s pro-bono casework.

Linett Reyes is a Florida Bar Certified Paralegal and has been involved with immigration law since 2011. An immigrant herself, Linett was born in Havana, Cuba and immigrated to Miami, FL after being selected to participate in the Diversity Immigration Visa Program. Her experience has given her a deeply rooted passion and interest in immigration. Her work experience ranges from waivers, family-based petitions, fiancée visas, adjustment of status applications, citizenship, Cuban family reunification, asylum, cancellation of removal and consular processing. She oversees Cuban adjustment cases and Cuban Parole (CFRP). Linett manages the firm’s detention cases and is a team recipient of AILA’s 2019 Arthur C. Helton Memorial Human Rights Award.

Melissa Sanchez is a versatile and essential member of the firm. She provides administrative support to the legal team to ensure high quality service to our clients. She manages client payments and is responsible for the firm’s operational systems. She is currently a student at Florida International University, where she is studying Business Management.

Erika Moreno is a Paralegal and manages the firm’s criminal defense docket. She graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice. Her case experience ranges from misdemeanors to serious felonies and she works on cases that are a combination of immigration and criminal defense. She overseas the EOIR calendar and manages all court hearings for the firm. She is dedicated to helping those in need.
