    Pros

Office is now closed. The best thing working for this company was the connections that I made with fellow employees. This was a small office environment. The marine underwriting department had 5-8 maximum and fortunately most of us got along great. Marine insurance can be interesting to learn about. Pay was decent and the benefits started out better than pretty good.

    Cons

The person that hired me was great! The person that took his place started out great and then declined. He retired and the person that took his place, not so much. He was an Assistant Manager at another IMU location. Once he arrived, as an asst mngr before the current manager retired. The retiring manager changed. So asst mngr turned mngr was a bully! Especially toward me. I started as an underwriting asst II in 2007 and stayed the same until office closed in 2013. After reaching out to other assistants, I realized it was rare it you got promoted within this company. I'm no slouch. I'm a hard worker, intelligent and dependable to name a few pluses about me. Not perfect but totally deserved at least one promotion within 6 year of working for that company. Not to mention, there was a lot on the plates of the two assistants in the office. Our part time office manager was asked to retire early. Once she left her duties were added to our list of things to do. Common practice with a lot of offices now a days. Get rid of staff and just pile on the work to others that already have enough to do. Then you get penalized when your not keeping up. Blamed when you're not trained well or for not taking initiative when you work for a bunch of control freaks that won't let you take things off of their hands. I can't put everything into words. Some offices do/did great with advancement. The office I worked in did not!!
