Document Specialist/Wordprocessor/trainer (Former Employee) - Chicago - May 28, 2015
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedMy typical day at work was 10:30 to 7. I was given every material I requested to run the wordprocessing/document specialist department. I worked basically by myself in the Chicago office for 40 people in the wordprocessing department. The hardest part of the job was being a jack of all trades and easiest part was training the employees on Microsoft software.
Pros
freedom to work
Cons
having to work alone

Bankrupt
Anti-trust Litigation Project Assistant (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - March 6, 2019
Enjoyed my time at the firm but it no longer exists. The firm is now closed and filed for bankrupcy. Not much more to say about a firm that no longer exists.

Howrey, was one of the most fun places I had the pleasure to work at, its a true family that cares about you. Its a place I would go back to in a heartbeat.

Great place to work.
IP Litigation Secretary (Former Employee) - Houston, TX - May 15, 2017
I left this firm because the partner I was working with decided to move to another law firm, and asked me to go with him. It was a hard decision, but ultimately went with him.

One of the best Law Firms in the Nation
Conference Services/Events Coordinator (Former Employee) - Los Angeles, CA - May 9, 2017
Howrey was the leader in Antitrust and Intellectual property Law Practice, a very nice firm to work for, unfortunately it is sad that the company ended up in bankruptcy for bad executive management decisions. The defunct firm is still in chapter 7 with no settlement on the Horizon. Good memories from this job, real nice talented people worked there.
Pros
One of the best nationwide
Cons
bad management sent the firm to chapter 7

This use to be a great place to work!
Office Administrator/Coordinator (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - January 26, 2016
After bad financial decisions and management, this firm closed it's doors on thousands of employees on March 9, 2011. Leaving many with no severance packages or options. I worked there for 25 years and, I was looking forward to retiring from there.
Pros
Was once a family-oriented business who cared about it's employees
Cons
Filed for bankruptcy leaving thousands of employees in the cold.

Executive Assistant to COO, CIO, CRO (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - August 20, 2015
Howrey has since folded but it was a great place to work. I learned a great deal on how to run a law firm like a business. I also worked with a great group of colleagues.

Excellent in-house training opportunities
CITE CHECKER/SENIOR LITIGATION PARALEGAL (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - October 16, 2014
I gained immense knowledge working there and used my paralegal skills to the maximum. I became the firm's official cite checker, including of briefs filed with the United States Supreme Court. I led in-house seminars on cite checking for the other paralegals. I've been to trial several times; interviewed clients; kept track of depositions; document control, privilege logs. I have first hand experience in international arbitration. I've been responsible for groups of temp paralegals hired to assist in document control.
Was a wonderful place to work for 16 years until the Partnership imploded and the firm went bankrupt on March 31, 2011 and put everyone out on the street with nothing to show for it. The partners made out quite well though. There is a class action lawsuit pending for back pay and the creditors are also trying to collect their money. Certain of the partners are under suspicion for selling out ahead of time without letting the rest of the firm know. That is why I ranked Management one star.
Pros
Good departmental luncheons with relevant speakers, in-house training, excellent technical support, ability to advance to senior positions, outside training seminars as part of Continuing Legal Education, superb Christmas parties held outside the firm, generous during "Support Staff week"
Cons
Having to sign in and out (on paper) whenever we left the firm, including for lunch. Later we had to punch in and out on the computer

Dissolved law firm
Event Planner (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - October 13, 2014
The law firm had its issues, but even nearly 3 years later, I still miss a lot of my coworkers. They were a good group of people. Sorry that I had to watch the ship go down though.

I loved this company
Human Resources Financial Assistant (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - October 9, 2012
If this company hadn't dissolved, I think I would've remained there until it was time for me to retire. They work/family balance was on point. My boss appreciated everything that I did for her. My co-workers were personable and it was a great working environment. The hardest part of my job was probably audit time. The most enjoyable part was being appreciated for my hard work. This company was very structured and showed their employees that they appreciated them.
Pros
the holiday parties, staff appreciation week, the leave balance
Cons
there were no cons, i loved that job

New Role Created by Operations Team
Billing Rates and Pricing Manager (Former Employee) - Washington, DC - July 27, 2012
The new role was very interesting but difficult to implement. I learned in a brief period of time a lot about a legal firm and their operations as well as the complexities of pricing and rates per hour.
Pros
learned a lot about the legal industry in the dc area
Cons
company dissolved
