Delivery Driver (Current Employee) - Groveport, OH - February 21, 2024
Featured review
Home City Ice selected this as a representative reviewWhat is the best part of working at the company? Great pay, stay physically fit, amazing opportunity for upward mobility, promote from within culture, understanding bosses who see you as a person, overall great place. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Long hours, driving truck in tight neighborhoods to deliver, dealing with upset customers. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Family owned company where you feel it but also the growth opportunity and pay scale of a larger company. Everybody gets along, drinks and food after work with coworkers-truly cohesive work environment. What is a typical day like for you at the company? In by 6am, gather route and speak to management, pre trip truck, fuel and off to a customer. Typically between 10-20 customers. Finish paperwork at office.

Excellent place to work in general, all of the locations I have been to are all the same. Hours are good, pay is okay depending on what you're doing.

Jobs at Home City Ice
Long hours
Driver (Former Employee) - Reading, PA - April 29, 2024
Expect 13-16 hr days and more routes added than you start with. Trucks have no ac and some lift gates are trash, people who have been there longer get better trucks. Management doesn’t really care if your hurt sick etc, they want you to finish that route.

A relatively stress free work place but with several equipment issues and horrible upper management.
Route Driver (Former Employee) - Walton Hills, OH - April 26, 2024
A typical day at work was driving from customer to customer delivering ice. Some days were short and some long. Pay was 100% commission based so your route area largely determined your pay. Local managers were good but retention on assistant managers was horrible. The culture around work focused completely on making money and not getting yelled at by upper management. Being a commission based job with 0 incentives for safety caused constant friction.
Pros
Decent health care and 401k match
Cons
No paid breaks or holidays.

Great Place to build a Career
Delivery Driver (Former Employee) - Wichita, KS - April 22, 2024
Hard work is expected but with a commission based pay scale it is beneficial to work as hard and efficient as possible. Hard work pays off and great enviroment to work in.

Delivery drivers
Manager (Current Employee) - United States - April 20, 2024
Good job especially if you just need a summer job but it can be long term if needed. Drivers do get hours and routes cut back in slower months but if you do a good job during the busy time you are more likely to get consistent work year round.

Production Worker (Current Employee) - Woodbine, NJ - March 27, 2024
Nice place Bag, stack, repeat. It's a lot of hard work but the people there are great, you'll get close with the people in your shift. Just be prepared for moving a ton of ice.

Good place to work
Diesel Mechanic (Former Employee) - Atlanta, GA - March 12, 2024
Great place to work. Management is very professional and majority of the trucks run Cummins. The work load can be light some days. The only down fall to this company is you’ll be working majority of the holidays.

Busy summer slow winter
Route Driver/Semi Driver (Former Employee) - North Webster, IN - March 11, 2024
Busy long days in the summer but you can make a lot if you are a hard worker. You’re paid off your sales so if you aren’t an above average worker it’s not really worth it. Very little job security because only a few drivers get kept on for the winter months. Even if you are kept on your pay will be much lower than the summer.
Pros
Good pay in summer. 100% 401k match
Cons
Long hours in summer no job security in wonter

Good work place
Call Center Representative (Current Employee) - Indianapolis, IN - March 11, 2024
The call volume can be really high in the summer and the customers can be rude but overall the management and call processes are easy to follow and work with.

Intense labor nothing too terrible will get burnt out and will be worked hard in the summer everyday
Driver/Production (Former Employee) - Birmingham, AL - March 5, 2024
The job itself is not hard or bad but can be time consuming and exhausting. You will get cheated of pay told you will make this but won’t, or they will say they never said that. you have to work a whole first year to even get considered of PTO meanwhile I had worked there a little over year and a half and was let go unannounced and no reasoning as well as tried to file pto while unemployed and was unable to because I did not work 1600 hours in a year but other people that worked less than me received theirs. (favortism) If you are not a favorite of the management you will need to look for a new job by september october. It doesn’t matter if you’re doing better than their favorites because it will not get accounted for overall I would stay away unless looking for quick money for 3-4 months.
Pros
free lunch
Cons
Everything else.

Long but informative review worth the read
Assistant Plant Manager (Former Employee) - Indianapolis, IN - March 2, 2024
Things you must give up to have the job of assistant plant manager: work-life-balance and personal life (expect phone calls on your days off and after you leave for the day, better answer them or you’ll come into a mess next day), inner peace, and sanity. Expect: coming into work in the middle of the night or on your day off, difficulty finding quality employees due to low hourly rates (the pay is not in your control), being left out of important emails because you’re only an assistant manager, 14 to 16 hour days with no overtime, broken promises, and pleas for help going unheard. My short career with HCI started as a small town college student looking for a summer job. I made fantastic money for a student and even received a tuition reimbursement check after meeting their requirements. My initial assumptions about the company were very positive. The management team I worked for was great and very transparent, you didn’t perform a task without knowing why it needed to be done or how it was helpful/ essential to reach company and personal goals. They never made you feel like just a number, you felt appreciated and useful, which is what any good employee wants. Later though, the honeymoon phase quickly fizzled out as I quickly discovered that culture was secluded to that particular plant and not the entire company. Fast forward three summers; I have graduated college and was suckered into becoming an assistant plant manager. At the time I was ecstatic, I had a salary/ benefits, a “big boy” title, and had a lot of smoke blown up my rear end on “how great I’m going to be”. I -
Pros
Management experience, health insurance, 401k, good for college students
Cons
Long hours, under appreciated, underpaid, little work life balance, bonus structure, no overtime

Rapidly growing and great company that knows how to treat its employees. Some days can be long especially in the summer but the compensation is fair.

Good job for summer college students
Assistant Plant Manager (Former Employee) - East Greenville, PA - February 27, 2024
It was a nice job to work in between semesters at college. They tend to promote from within so that was nice. Pay is on the lower end for comparable jobs. It is busy in the summer and dies off in the winter.

Overwork employees
Truck Driver (Former Employee) - Oak Park, MI - February 22, 2024
They over work you and don’t care about you. U have to load your truck up with ice pallets and push about 600 pounds worth of ice all day. No lunch or bathroom breaks.

It’s an okay job if you’re in a pinch, but as a 4 year current employee I would say avoid if possible.
Terminal Manager/driver (Current Employee) - Caspian, MI - February 21, 2024
What is the best part of working at the company? Avoid. Good for a temp job if you’re in a pinch, but definitely not a long term employment option. Terrible management and constant blame pushing for incompetent management. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Management makes it difficult to do your job stress free. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? They preach about positive work place energy. It’s the type of company that delivers empty promises. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Long, usually 12-14 hours.. 6 days a week.
