Hi all,

I read on the wiki that the recommended setting is HT20 or HT40 for 2.4ghz, so I tried both. I get somewhat of a better result with HT40 (300Mbps) and pages load a little faster too. However, others are saying that apple devices may not work and that HT40 can cause interference? I checked the area around me, and there are about 9 other people so far with access points in the neighborhood. Should I stay with HT20? There are many people that use Apple devices, so I don't know if I can even go with HT40.

The other thing I noticed is that in AP mode, I have added another Virtual Interface for guests and that interface will work at HT20 even though I have set the AP at HT40.

The specs and settings are below:

i would ve use HT40, channel 11 + lower and short preamble is a must nowadays, i dont have problems with any Apple devices
you can also select Canada or Haiti as regulatory domain it will squeeze more power out

I have set it now to channel 10 (it selects lower as the only option) and turned on short preamble. Looks like it went up to 450Mbps after doing that.

I did try to set it to channel 11 instead of 10, but my speed went lower so I put it back to 10. Any other settings I could try "optimizing?" The only other thing I changed was the Ack sensitity, and had set it to 900.

Ok, thanks, I guess the other articles on google about Apple/HT40 are from before and things are ok now?

Any way to set the Virtual wireless guest to HT40 too?

Edit: Nevermind, I think the device that was connecting to the Virtual interface could only connect at HT20 so that is what I was seeing. The interface itself is at HT40 though.

Thanks for sharing. Your TX power seems high at 30...wouldn't that overheat the router or maybe cause health problems? Not that I know, but just curious...

Which router are you using?

thats nothing 30dbm = 1 watt. radios designed for that can & will do it fine such as ea8500, and is about the highest legally allowed in the best wifi nations like haiti/canada/usa/grenada etc. thats also just the settings page, doesnt mean its actually using it. u can enter 99 nothing will happen, if the radio &/or reg domain is limited to 27 dbm its still going to cap at 27 dbm.

I'm on the Archer C7 v2 (default should be 27db? so almost the same) , you can try it, maybe you wil gain a bit more wifi range, the ath1 (is the 5ghz radio but I've also selected 30db) temp is 47/49 degree. The router is quite cold, a lot less hot than my ISP modem who has the WIFI disabled Laughing

...just for curiosity, I checked and max gain is 24dbm on the 2.4ghz antenna of the Archer C7 v2 (30dbm on 5GHz). So you can enter what you want upper 24dbi Laughing

30db (1 Watt) is too high for health questions.

20db (100mW) is the maximum legal in Europe for example.
My previous linksys was 16db (42mW) with the default firmware, my current is limited to 15db without any issue.

Everybody do what they want, and I'm not going to fight, but I wouldn't like to sleep near your 1 watt router...

Yes that's right! My router is far away from my bedroom (I can't even receive the signal...), in my bedroom I have another router (who should cover only my bedroom) and the antenna power is lower (16db on 5ghx, the only enabled). Anyway thanks for message!

Yes because EU laws don't permit to go above 20db on 2.4ghz and 23db on 5ghz. You must set Canada in your wireless setting and then 24/30dbm (or 99/99 Laughing ) on 2.4/5ghz radio.

PS: hai scritto due volte una negazione "can't not" Very Happy
