Great Benefits, Limited Empathy
Claims Representative (Current Employee) - Sioux City, IA - February 20, 2024
I’ve worked at the company for over 5 years. The training is tough, the work is tougher. Interacting with Insureds and Claimants can be terrible. You are required to take verbal abuse and the amount of claims/calls that come in are unreasonable, especially during the winter months. If you reach out to your manager about the workload, nothing will be done. They nearly removed non-exempt bonuses for a shady alternative program. Compensation is good, but I’m wondering, at what cost? Tuition reimbursement is a wonderful benefit, but the process is bumpy and requires written consent from your direct manager. I would say coworkers are great, but due to the workload, there isn’t really time to form bonds. Unsatisfied and have been unsatisfied for some time. Finally looking elsewhere.
Pros
Tuition reimbursement
Cons
You will be overworked and underpaid in regard to work

Jobs at Great West Casualty Company
Family oriented, chill, reliable, work environment.
Switchboard Operator (Current Employee) - South Sioux City, NE - January 25, 2024
What is the best part of working at the company? Their understanding nature. Life happens, kids have events, they support you & have your back. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The need better training or specific trainers who know the job. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Family oriented, chill, quiet. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Come into the office and hop right into my queue. Making calls. Lunch & back to working on my claims.

Great pay/benefits. No job satisfaction.
Senior Safety Representative (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IN - July 25, 2023
6 figure salary but feels like you are on a production line making widgets at a breakneck pace with more widgets constantly being thrown your way. Vacation is counterproductive. Take a few days, and you fall so far behind that you either find yourself working during your vacation or have to play catch-up for two days after you return. Promotions are based on coursework and extra-curricular activity and not on workload or sustained superior performance. Extremely political organization. Goals and objectives set by managers are often unreasonable/unattainable causing them to be withdrawn at the end of the reporting period.......after the employee ran around in circles trying their best to complete them. Leadership's hiring decisions are often questionable-to-poor and result in additional work for other team members. Weak hires are coddled for way too long until it is determined that they are unsuitable for the position. During this time, certain established team members assume the extra workload. Frequent after-hours questions and demands from customers, who are often extremely rude or upset with underwriting's rate increases and take out their frustrations by berating the Safety Representative. If you can smile in the face of ineptitude and get along to get along, you will do fine here. If you are looking for company where you can make a difference and feel a sense of accomplishment, look elsewhere.

Worst job I've ever had
Corporate Office Claims Processor (Former Employee) - Nebraska - October 1, 2022
No diversity, no clear leadership. No order. Worst company I've ever worked for. They are not organized. Huge turn over. Very stressful due to management doesn't know what's going on. Trainers will discriminate against you.

No wonder there was a massive walk out
Claims Processor (Former Employee) - South Sioux City, NE - September 21, 2022
The place is the harshest environment I've ever worked in. I felt like a sore thumb and there was no compassion. I also felt beside one other person who worked there , the only person of diversity. Horrible horrible company
Pros
Great Dental
Cons
Everything else

Excellent Coworkers and Management
Liability Claims Adjuster (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IN - August 26, 2022
Coworkers and management are very supportive and outline clear tasks and goals. When help is needed, it is readily offered. Plenty of learning and training opportunities as well as fun events both in and out of the office. The only downside is the work/life balance and slow rate of promotions or advancement. I left the company due to not being able to work from home, but would readily recommend Great West to any jobseekers (experience or not, you’re in good hands!).

Too much micro managing.
Supervisor (Former Employee) - South Sioux City, NE - March 17, 2022
CEO required everybody to work in office until 20% of the staff quit. They finally had to allow part time remote work. Stress level is high bit it one of two companies in town. There are not many options here to work at.

Outstanding organization. Great growth opportunity. And very solid with regards to financial stability.
Claims Attorney / Adjuster (Former Employee) - South Sioux City, NE - January 27, 2022
This is a great Insurance Company. Very well organized and a very solid organization. Nice and slow growth over the years. Very solid financial footing with no constant layoffs, etc. Growth is available for anyone who works hard and takes the time to perfect their work.
Pros
Great management. Room for growth. Great benefits.
Cons
Entry level pay is a bit conservative. However, over time, there is room for career growth and pay increases.

Company culture is fantastic
Regional Marketing Representative (Former Employee) - Arlington, TX - October 11, 2021
Great company to work for with a great culture. Local management didn't have a clear direction though...seemed scattered. Would recommend employment though...fantastic employees give it a family atmosphere.
Pros
Great culture
Cons
Management had no clear direction

I get to grow at Great West
Service Center Supervisor (Current Employee) - South Sioux City, NE - October 1, 2021
I spend my day doing a variety of engaging tasks, and get to learn something new every day. I build relationships with internal and external customers and business partners, reach across aisles to all different departments, train, coach and produce. I have a supportive, transparent manager and a great team that I implicitly trust. Great West helps me further my career by paying for industry-specific continuing education, as well as tuition reimbursement along the way. I started here with no insurance background and worked my way to a leadership position in a few years. The opportunity and advancement is there for those willing to work for it.
Pros
Culture that promotes self-care, growth, family and stability
Cons
Career path for entry level positions could be more defined

Mixed Messages
Underwriter (Current Employee) - South Sioux City, NE - August 3, 2021
We value our employees... Except for salary and benefits... Want a raise? Why? We buy your lunch sometimes. Want to work remotely? You shouldn't expect to be promoted unless you are at the office.
Pros
Good people for co-workers
Cons
Complete disconnect in C Suite
