Great Hotel for the price. Rooms were recently remodeled and very nice. There are a couple of items that need to be improved. The hot tub is very small and the temperature is too low. Also, they advertise free breakfast starting at 7 AM. However, on the Sunday of our visit, they were not open. Even the front desk was closed. We wound up going elsewhere and paying for breakfast.

Response from GatewayInnSalida, Front Office Manager at Gateway Inn & Suites
Responded Feb 17, 2020
Dear Alex5829, Thank you for your review. We greatly appreciate it and are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. We would like to apologize to you and any other guest from that morning who may be reading this. We are sorry. Our morning clerk had a severe medical emergency, and it took time for us to send his replacement. Thus opening breakfast at 7:30AM instead of 7:00AM. We understand that this may have put some off of their scheduled day and we are so sorry for the inconvenience. Hopefully, as you said you went elsewhere for breakfast, you were able to discover another hidden gem of our beautiful town. If you are to choose our hotel again for a Salida getaway, we guarantee you a free breakfast, as advertised! Thank you and have a peaceful winter, Gateway Inn and Suites Management

We were completely surprised by the Gateway Inn
The price was so low that we didn't expect such a nice room. Everything in the room, lighting, carpet, beds, and bathroom area were beautiful, one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever been in. And everything was immaculate. The room also included a coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave. Breakfast was also included. Although it was continental, it included far more than we expected. We will stay here in the future.

The room was remodeled. The mattress was not as comfortable as I would have liked. A great amount of pillows. They could use a new brand of coffee for the in room coffee maker. Very weak, and I used less water. Very good, free breakfast options. Waffles, yogurt, boiled eggs, very good pre-packaged pastries, fresh fruit, coffee and hot chocolate. I do not recommend the Mexican restaurant next door. I got 800 miles on my Alaska Airlines card for one night!

After a long hot day on the road, we were excited to check-in for our 3-night stay. Having stayed here multiple times, we booked weeks in advance and felt good about returning. However, immediately after getting into our room, we used the toilet and water flowed out from under the toilet, covering 25% of the bathroom floor - yep, raw sewer water. Informed front desk and, not knowing just how long the toilet had been leaking sewage onto the floor (& possibly into the carpet & walls), we requested a room change. When told they had no other rooms at our price, I said I thought that was their problem, and that we would not stay in that room. After more discussion, they informed us that we had 3 options: stay in our room after they fixed the toilet, pay triple charges to stay in a suite, or accept a refund and leave. Really?!? $300+ a night to switch rooms due to a raw sewage leak? If they wouldn't move us to an available room at their hotel, I said at the very least, they should move us to a comparable room at another hotel, not turn us out onto the street. The front desk "had to talk to the owner." We waited in our room nearly an hour, not sure if we were soon going to be searching for another hotel. Could it possibly be safe to just stay in this contaminated room? For 3 nights?? During this time, the "maintenance" duo spent ten minutes reattaching the toilet to the floor (it literally shifted a full inch when he nudged it) and then splashing a bit of bleach around. Their casual approach instilled NO confidence in the safety of this room. Finally, after an hour, the front desk called and said they'd booked us a room at another hotel. Couldn't believe it took them so long to do the right thing, or if they'd even have come up with the idea if I hadn't suggested it. We packed up our belongings and couldn't get out of that room fast enough. Throughout the episode, we got NO apologies from staff and NO concern for our situation. We were stunned. Obviously, equipment occasionally breaks and problems sometimes happen. What's important is the staff and owner's RESPONSE to these unexpected events, and Gateway's response was appalling.... The replacement hotel was down the road, and worked just fine for our 3 days. Of course, on day 2, we got an email from our online booking company that said Gateway Inn had reported us as "no shows" to our reservation. Really?!? We'd shown up, checked in, and paid in full! So, yet more vacation time had to be wasted cleaning up yet another mess created by Gateway. Ultimately, with guidance from us, they eventually did the right thing and used our payment to book us a room at another hotel. That's why they got 2 stars instead of 1. However, with that kind of customer service, that kind of maintenance, and that kind of casual approach to guest safety, I'm not sure we'll ever book a room here again. Too bad they are losing our repeat business. We stay in Salida regularly.

Let look at BOTH sides of the story; You were relocated to Brown's Canyon Inn and PAID IN FULL by Gateway. You were informed that we are unable to change rooms since Gateway was fully occupied-sold out. We were forced to RELOCATE you because of your Hostile attitude towards our Staff that "escalated 10 min repair to 1 hr ordeal" and because of your Passive Aggressive attitude and Insulting attitude towards All of our Personnel. At first you refused maintenance access to the room, and when you allowed them you have "doubted" their abilities to repair anything, put them down, insulted an elderly Staff member for communicating with Co-Worker in a different language. That's DISCRIMINATION ! This Incident was not a matter of Customer Service approach it was a case of "Anger & Intimidation approach" Please consider being more kind to our hard working Service Industry Workers- they All went out of their way to help. We are especially surprised how this incident unrevealed considering you were a Repeat Customer who chose to return to our Hotel for a reason?

The town of Salida is fantastic and worth the visit, the Gateway Inn & Suites is more interested in collecting your money than in providing and enjoyable hotel experience. After my interaction with the current hotel management team I would not stay here for free. Do yourself a favor and consider any other alternative hotel and you will be glad you did.

You booked through a third party booking website. Our area of Colorado was not part of the flood warning, or put under weather alert. We were one of the few places in Colorado that had no flooding. US-HWY 50 was the designated detour route for most of the highways affected. We are located on US-HWY 50. Therefore, Expedia refused cancellation.

We stayed here for five nights and was a very pleasant experience. The place is kept very clean and the stay is also very accommodating. There were dinning and shopping within walking distance and we felt very safe walking there anytime.

Nice, clean basic motel. Were in town two nights for rafting and hiking. They had a decent selection of items for a quick bite in the morning (hard boiled eggs, waffles, cereal some fruit) and very good coffee. The have an unusual set-up for the hot tub, it's on an "island" in the parking lot inside a small shed. What seemed unwelcoming during the day was actually a very nice spot in the evening. Party lights came on and each night we enjoyed a nightcap and met fellow travelers sittings at the tables. A nice brewery a few miles down the road was a find as well.

the sheets were rough , stiff like they were starched , we were in king room 210 the AC unit was one of the old window style noisy it ran on and off all night not in regular cycles but every 20 seconds 4 ft from my head. the tub was scratched. this a MOTEL old school the kind you never want to stay in again. it gives the name "Inn and suite " a bad name. the staff was nice and doing there job so good for them at least they are working.

We are sorry to hear that our accommodations didn't meet your Personal Comfort criteria. Please find few "facts" about our facilities; Gateway Inn was Fully Renovated in 2018 with over 500K spent in property renovations. Brand New Amana A/C units were installed in 2018. We use "organic" 100% cotton sheets-not cheap polyester from overseas.

We paid $200 for this room. Nicer hotels were.sold out, but still expected a clean room. Upon check-in, we found big crumbs and sticky drink rings on tables, previous guests food and beer in fridge, shower was dirty with hairs and soap scum. We almost though they gave us someone else's room on accident, because all it looked like they did was fresh towels and made the beds. We went to get it remedied, front desk was kind and very embarrassed, the room got missed, so they gave us another room. Slightly cleaner, but...still not great. We found what looked like conditioner spilled in the tub, handsome tray covered in soap scum, and dried blood on sheets (not stained, dried on blood droplets!) The walls are really thin, you can hear the neighbors and doors slamming. Tried to use the tv to drown out the noise, but cable wasn't working, hubby had to switch around the wires to fix it. I'd understand if this was some cheap, run down hotel/motel, but for $200 a night? We only stayed because all of the nicer hotels were sold out and we needed to rest. Do not let the online photos fool you, this place is not the one. Do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on a room in this filthy place.

My family had booked a one night stay but unfortunately the day of arrival the National Service issued a weather alert through 11pm that night stating "The Cotopaxi area along Highway 50 between Canon City and Salida has stagnant water, bringing concerns of flooded roads and falling rocks and other debris from the steep canyon walls". Unwilling to risk the conditions we made the rational decision to not chance the conditions and elected to turn back. I reached out to the Hotel Management (Elle) to discuss the unique circumstance. Not only was the Manager extremely unprofessional she was also unable to look beyond the short sided approach of collecting my money and making no effort to understand the situation and/or offer any other potential solutions. The whole experience is a poor representation for any type company I would willing doing business with again in the future. If you are willing to have Management in place that takes this type of approach with their customers I would argue that it makes the decision where not to stay pretty easy in the future. I would certainly would not recommend staying at the Gateway Inn And Suites in Salida.
