Description

Seller's Description:
LSB#: 170412AG03

Make: Tanfoglio Brothers (Fratelli Tanfoglio), Italy, Imported by F.I.E.

Model: E15 Buffalo Scout

Serial Number: T B98815

Year of Manufacture: 1985

Caliber: .22 Short, Long or Long Rifle

Action Type: Single Action Revolver with Side Loading Gate Cylinder

Markings: The right side of the barrel is marked with FIE’s two-line warning. The left side of the barrel is marked “F.I.E. Model E15 .22 L.R. / FRATELLI TANFOGLIO – MADE IN ITALY”. The left side of the frame is marked “F.I.E. MIAMI FLA.”. The right side of the frame is marked with two Italian proofs, a boxed “AN” date code, “CAT. 885” and a logo. There is also an Italian proof on the right side of the barrel at the frame and another on the circumference of the cylinder. The underside of the frame in front of the trigger guard is marked “T B98815”. T

Barrel Length: 4 ¾”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a rounded blade swaged into a slot in the top of the barrel. The rear sight is a “U” notch dovetailed into the rear of the top strap and secured with a set screw. The rear face of the “U” notch is disfigured.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are black checkered plastic with a smooth thumbrest at the top of the left grip. There is circled “FIE” molded into the lower section of both grips with a circled running buffalo at the top of the right grip. The smooth areas show a few light marks on their bottom edges. The checkering shows light wear without mars. The grips rate in about Fine to Excellent overall condition.

Type of Finish: The revolver is chrome plated. The trigger, cylinder pin and screw heads are blued.

Finish Originality: All Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 97% of its original metal finish. The gun was roughly cast and then polished, or machined as in the case of the cylinder. There are some small dings under the finish in the barrel and the sides of the frame, with tiny nicks in the bottom edges of the frame and the upper edges of the trigger guard that we think were casting imperfections that were too deep to be polished out. There is some dulling in the finish on the sides of the frame in front of the cylinder and below the recoil shields on the sides of the frame. There are light handling marks scattered along the length of the ejector rod housing, tiny dings in the sides of the frame in front of the cylinder and light marks in the trigger guard. There are also scratches through the finish at the bottom of the backstrap and a few light marks in the cylinder, which does not have a drag line. The hammer serrations are disfigured, but this is under the finish. The screw heads on the left side of the frame and the grip screw are sharp. The others are Phillips head. The markings are clear. Overall, this handgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a hammer blocking safety on the left rear of the frame that when rotated down blocks the hammer from hitting the firing pin. The cylinder lockup is Solid and the trigger pull is crisp. The hammer has both ¼ and ½ cock safety notches. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a single action six shot revolver patterned after a Colt 1873 SAA revolver. It even has ¼ and ½ cock notches on the hammer. One except is that a manual hammer blocking safety has been added on the left side of the frame. The revolver is a E15 Buffalo Scout made by Tanfoglio Brothers in Italy for F.I.E., an importer in Miami. The revolver is chrome plated with black checkered plastic grips. Another unique feature of this pistol is the thumbrest on the left grip – we don’t see to many single action revolvers with thumbrests. The revolver is in about Fine condition with 97% of its finish remaining. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion. Surprisingly, the cylinder lockup is Solid and the trigger pull is crisp. This would make a great pistol for practicing for SASS Cowboy Action matches with inexpensive rimfire ammunition. It can also be used for informal target shooting and plinking. Tanfoglio didn’t spend a lot of time polishing the steel prior to plating, but the action and bore are terrific, so this revolver should last for decades.

CA Legal or CA Private Party Transferable: This single action revolver can be transferred/sold in California.
