This is one of those nice little motels where your room is quiet, clean and the owners care. Well run and comfy. If you need a night to bed down on the road, this is a much better value than the name brand motels.

Good place to stay. Porno movies - a strip bar next door - waterbeds and hookers on call! Don't miss this one. I can't wait to go back. They should open a branch in Kansas. Don't bring your wife - she'll just get in the way

The Elms Motel is not exactly a good place to stay. If you are accustomed to Hampton Inn's or anything more classy, then you might find this place completely unacceptable. That said, if you are more flexible on the classiness of your accommodations, then you can save a good chunk of money by booking here as opposed to the other options in town, like the Holiday Inn Express or Motel 8. It is generally clean, but has definitely seen its share of wear and tear. The decor can best be described as hodge-podge and yet if you need a place to stay for cheap, it's a good option as long as you're honest with yourself about what you can tolerate.

Have stayed at the Elms Motel for several years now during our trek to and from the Sturgis motorcycle rally. The motel has a convenient location, clean and well maintained rooms. The added continental breakfast makes it an even better value. We like the fact you can pull your car/motorcycle right up to the door to unload.

I have never stayed at the Elm's personally, but as manager of another independently-owned motel in the next community, I hear much feedback. During peak season we refer the majority of our guests to this motel simply because of the feedback we have received from many of our regular guests who have stayed there when we've had no vacancy. The staff is very friendly and cooperative in the business associate aspect. This property has an excellent location next to several convenience stores, shopping & restaurants. Being a motel operator, I understand that traveler's are taking a chance when choosing a mom & pop lodging facility and often opt for the validity and reputation of a larger franchise, but I highly recommend this property. You will receive the comfort and service of any large-chain motel, but on top of that, you will receive hometown friendliness and pricing.

I occasionally travel to O'Neill for business and have stayed at the Elm Motel approximately 20 nights in the last 2 years. The last time in November 2014. I could stay at other, more expensive motels and still stay under my company daily budget, but the Elms motel is always clean, the beds are comfortable and the owners are friendly, or I wouldn't go back. I like the old motels like this that are run by the owners, with a room where I can pull right up at the door and don't have to haul all my stuff through the lobby and down long halls like at the new chain motels.

Room Tip: Wifi signals are stronger in the rooms nearest the office, but still works in the farthest room.

Dirtiest, filthiest place we have ever been in. Hotel Impossible couldn't even help. First off, very nice folks at office. However...dust, dirt, and mildew everywhere. Carpet so gross, we wore shoes all the time. Flies everywhere. Chairs stained, bedspreads stained, walls and ceiling actually stained. Now for bathroom...smallest ever. Mold and mildew in every corner. Toilet was so disgusting that we bought sani-wipes to clean bathroom and every surface. Asked for no smoking and room smelled like old smoke, smokers in rooms next to us, and a cigarette butt canister outside room. Towels smelled musty and had crusty stains on them. Wish I could say something good, but health department needs to shut down. Cannot recommend even if last resort - - stay in your car at rest area.

Maybe I got a bad room on the wrong night...but...my experience was not ideal. Room floor was filthy. Think they forgot to vacuum. And there was blood spots on the vanity. But the kicker for me was the other guests that night. A lot of young construction dudes carting big coolers into their rooms with a beer in other hand. A couple of them were eyeing up my motorcycle pretty good. Not typically one to judge people but I just didnt have a safe and comfortable feeling and could be in for a sleepless night. So I packed up my stuff and moved on down the road to another motel which was $5 more a night, spotless room and much better vibe. The upside is the room rate the Elms was so cheap I didnt bother with the hassle of asking for my money back..I just left. Oh I should mention the room had a great A/C. Super cold.

Old style motel that needs renovation. Price was under $50, but the room was infested with flies, which I understand were a town problem at the time. There was a faint smell of "toilet" in the bathroom and the carpet was badly in need of cleaning. Still using keyed locks which were not tight. The rooms to my left were long-term rents and had a junky look about them. There were better choices in town; I should have followed my better instinct.

Tired and driving thru O'Neill, I spotted the "pets welcome" sign at this motel or "motor court" and pulled in. A vert pleasant hostess let us know there was vacancy and offered to show me the room--I declined and, even tho we normally stay at budget hotel chains when traveling, gave the Elms the benefit of the doubt. I was glad I did--we had a comfortable, quiet night in O'Neill.
Yes the room was dated, some peeling wall paper, and minor stains on the carpet but the room and bedding was clean and well appointed. Yes, many of the other rooms were apparently occupied by construction or harvest workers but I have no problem with that--I don't assume that these guys are any more interested in partying or noise than I would be after a day of work and they created no problem with me. The motel sits back from Rt 20 far enough to muffle much of the road noise and has a nice place to exercise dogs out front on the spacious grassy areal.
Overall, considering the price, this was a good choice for us and I can recommend it to other travelers along U.S. 20.
