Edward Buford Thomson, Jr., age 95, of Raymore, MO, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2016, at Foxwood Springs Senior Living. Ed was born in rural Jackson County, MO on May 26, 1921, to Edward B. Thomson, Sr. and wife, Mary J. Carroll Thomson. He attended grades K-12 in Raymore and went on to study at Warrrensburg State College. In 1942, he married his high school sweetheart, Frances L. Kreeger. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Frances, and sisters, J. Carroll Faith and Nancy M. Thomson. He is survived by his son, Edward B. Thomson, III (Penny), daughter, Mary Beth Broockerd (Chuck), grandchildren, Brad Thomson (Jennifer), Michelle Holbrook (Lance), Emily Penyock (Eric), and Ashley Broockerd. He also leaves his precious great-grandchildren, Alexzis and Evan Thomson, Taylor and McKenzie Holbrook, and Paul and Charlie Penyock. Also surviving him is his sister, Sarah Sudduth, nieces and nephews, his brother-in-law, Karl Kreeger, and his dear, sweet companion for many years, Marjorie Langford. Ed was an ambitious, hard-working, family man who was actively involved in his community. His civic contributions included Boy Scout Master, member of the Hickman Mills Chamber of Commerce, elder at the Hickman Mills Community Christian Church, charter member and elder of the Raymore Christian Church, sixty-three year member of Grandview Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, member of the Ararat Shrine Temple in Kansas City, MO, serving as Director of its “Ole Car” unit. He was also a part of the Royal Order of Jesters. He spent countless hours collecting donations for the Shrine Circus every year. Ed started building homes part-time in Hickman Mills in 1955 while still working at Borden’s Dairy, making it his full-time profession in 1957. In 1972, his business incorporated to become Edward B. Thomson Enterprises, Inc., building and developing properties in Kansas City, Belton and Raymore. He and his wife, Frances, also formed a real estate company for which she was the broker. The company has been active for three generations. In his professional life, he was a long-time member of the Kansas City Home Builders Association, chairing many committees, serving as President in 1983, President of the Home Builders Association of Missouri in 1986, as well as being a Life Director of the National Association of Home Builders. During his time with the Home Builders, he recruited over 350 members. He was also Chairman of the Home Owners Warranty of Greater Kansas City in 1981. He was awarded Builder of the Year in 1988 by the Kansas City Home Builders Association for distinguished service to the industry. Ed’s family would like to sincerely thank all the caregivers at Foxwood Springs Living and Brookdale Hospice who lovingly provided comfort and support to Ed and his family during this time. They truly are angels. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. with the service at 11:00 a.m. followed by the Royal Order of Jesters Rose Ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Ararat Shrine Transportation Fund, 5100 Ararat Dr., Kansas City, MO 64129 and/or to the Brookdale Hospice, 3131 S. State Route 291, Suite C, Independence, MO 64057.
