My only complaint is the great focus on western railroads. Okay, I realize that for him to have covered the eastern roads, the volume would be twenty times its size. Perhaps the topic was too comprehensive, but I know it could have been more balanced.
I love it, and if you try to take it away from me, come well-armed and make satisfactory funeral arrangements.

It tells the history of American Raildroads through old maps and publicity material. There are often several maps on a page, and the writing on some of them can be difficult to read. If you are looking for an atlas of American railroads with large clear maps, then this is not the book for you. If you are fascinated by history, old maps, and old publicity material, then you will thoroughly enjoy this book.
A lot of fact. Not much coverage of Canadian railroad development.
For the died in the wool railroader which I'm not.
