Pros
Kind coworkers; fun events; fair and flexible PTO; great health benefits (fully paid); additional fringe benefits offered; small company; respectful management; good work/life balance; hybrid work environment for my location; regular company meetings to aid in transparency about financials, goals and vision
Cons
Harder to make work relationships as many employees are primarily remote; have to use PTO for holidays (DealNews does give employees 24 accrual days of PTO/year, so it balances somewhat); smaller, so growth is slower or limited

Pros
Ability to work from home
Cons
- Lack of communication - Deceitful practices - Profits over people - I worked for this company for over a decade, we were told that we were financially doing well, no issues were ever brought up at meetings. I came into work as usual, was called into a zoom meeting and told that they were doing a reduction in force and I was being let go. No notice, no warning, and no offer to move me to another department that they were keeping. - No loyalty from the company - They hired an “advisor” months before the firing, he gathered information on all of us under the guise of getting to know us, then used that information to pick who he was putting on the chopping block. - No job stability
6dealnews.com Response3moHello, and thank you for the critical feedback that you have provided. We know that it is very difficult to revisit the dark day of our reduction in force in Q1 of 2023. With the tech industry losing over 240,000 jobs in the previous year, it was truly agonizing for DealNews to find itself among the companies conducting first-quarter layoffs. We carried out a reduction in force at the beginning of 2023 as a part of our focus on efficiency across the organization. We did not eliminate whole divisions. Instead, we reduced our Content Department to match the workload, and enhanced our processes by removing redundant practices and implementing new technologies and automation. Despite this past decision, we do believe that we do a good job striving each day to reflect our core values of curiosity, humility, and compassion. We want our employees to feel valued and supported in a job that they find fulfilling. We want none of our employees, many of whom have been employed for 10+ years, to worry about their job stability. We still conduct regular all-staff meetings in which we discuss the company’s revenue and profit. Moving forward, we will be able to reflect on what more we can do based on your valued feedback. We are grateful to you and to everyone who has contributed to the success of DealNews, both past and present.
- 3.0Content EditorFormer Employee, more than 10 yearsHuntsville, AL
Pros
Ability to work remotely Company provides all necessary technology to perform job Decent benefits package Opportunity to travel for training in company's various offices
Cons
Lack of transparency Brutal holiday schedule Limited opportunities for advancement Disparity in pay among employees doing same work/jobs No future security within the company or beyond given severity of non-compete clause that employees are forced to sign.

Pros
Work from home. Good insurance Decent vacation and time off
Cons
Asked to sign a non-compete for a position that did not have access to any company secrets or client lists (basically, no access to company information that could be taken elsewhere) Pay was 2 and 3 times higher for other employees doing the same job with fewer or same number of years at company. Lied to employees about company health. Cut nearly an entire team (save 2) with no warning; which in my opinion, signifies the company was struggling. No internal promotions for non-degreed employees.

Pros
Overall, it was a great place to work with mostly great people. I enjoyed what I did. The pay and benefits were very decent, and I planned on being there long-term.
Cons
In spite of the company core values (which they make much of), there is a lack of transparency that is harmful to the company. I was caught in a Reduction in Force onslaught, for which I had NO advance notice. I got laid off early my workday, and immediately, my company email was suspended. This was bad because it had all my insurance and 401(k) information. So, lack of transparency. Lack of commitment to the company's core values. Lack of gratitude for employee contribution and commitment. Be cautious. If you get hired, have a backup plan. You may very well need it with no notice at all.
7dealnews.com Response2yThank you for taking the time to give us your valued feedback. While we are extremely happy you found DealNews to be a great place to work, we acknowledge that we have made a decision that has caused you great distress. Proceeding with a Reduction in Force is a painful decision to make as a company, and not one that was made lightly. It was a very tough choice, believed to be necessary for the long term success of the entire company. We do strive to hold ourselves to our core values of curiosity, humility, and above all, sympathy, with every decision we make. We also apologize for the sudden removal of access, but once again, we determined it to be necessary. We made sure to follow up immediately using verified personal contact information. Terminated employees are also able to access both our employee system and benefits portal. We do believe that transparency and honesty is vital from our leadership. Our CEO addressed the staff at length regarding the Reduction in Force and will continue to take questions from any and all staff, directly. We are grateful to you, and to everyone who has contributed to DealNews. We are very sorry for the difficult decision we have made, but we have done so, gravely, for the good of the company.
