FLEET TECHNICIAN III - Finance - Fleet Services

JOB SUMMARY:
Under supervision, perform light mechanical repairs and welding on city vehicles/equipment. Perform other related work as required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform light repairs on City vehicle/equipment, including (but not limited to): common electrical problems; light bulb replacement; light assembly replacement; removal and replacement of engine drive belts; removal and replacement of alternator and starter assembly (automotive class only); removal and replacement of batteries; removal and replacement of mower blades. Assist other Fleet Technicians on repairs to City equipment, such as motors, transmissions, and rear axle overhauling. Reads, writes, and converses in the English language. Communicate courteously and effectively with other city employees, officials, vendors, and the public. Account properly for labor and materials charged to units and on work orders. Operate a large variety of City vehicles and equipment. Crawl under and/or climb on vehicles for inspections. Lift, pull, and/or push up to 100 pounds of parts inventory. Sit, stand, stoop, twist and/or walk for extended periods of time during vehicle inspections. Work both indoors and outdoors, including during adverse weather conditions such as extreme cold, heat and temperature swings. Use appropriate safety precautions in performance of job duties.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
Perform special projects as assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, DEGREES, CERTIFICATES, AND/OR LICENSES:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Texas Class A Commercial operator’s license (CDL) required. Texas Class C Drivers license acceptable if applicant has also passed written portion of test. Must obtain Texas Class A Commercial Operator's License (CDL) within six months of assignment to position. Must obtain Texas Department of Public Safety State Inspection Certification at the request from Fleet Manager, but not later than six months from assignment to position. Must obtain two A.S.E. certifications within one year of assignment to position. Certifications must be kept current, and renewed in a timely manner.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS:
Must have two years experience as a Preventive Maintenance Technician with the City of Richardson, or two years of verifiable technician experience required in another fleet or retail automotive environment. Knowledge of primary welding skills in automotive or construction field preferred.
