Mark R.
Small welding business owned and operated by a welder/fabricator. Experienced in all phases and types of welding, from structural projects, blacksmithing, repairing and/or modifying automobiles & motorcycles. I work w/ items such as garden tools, shelving, short stairway handrails, burglar proofing bars for windows and doorways, et al. I'll repair, fabricate and/or modify your project. Also, I can run a few idea's by you if you're not exactly sure what you want. There is no minimum charge. My rates are on a sliding scale; $60 - $110 per hour. ($60 is not necessarily the minimum charge - it could be less;-) My rates are competitive because I prefer to work alone. Your assistance* is welcome, but not necessary - thus further reducing labor cost's. *(Simple assistance like holding the other end of the tape measure type of thing) I've invested in a little portable hi-tech welding machine that runs off of standard 110v household current.

I had a nice swivel office chair which, after 3+ years of daily use broke and left the metal plate around the cylinder with a big crack in it. I called Mark, we arranged for a meeting time in the same week and he welded my chair back to life in no time. Before tossing out an item that can be repaired with an expert weld, consider calling Mark. He is also a long time San Francisco resident, friendly and his rates are reasonable (certainly compared to the other outfits). I am happy to have found him and will on him again if the need arises.

I had the lever for my parking brake break off at the joint of the parking brake assembly of my car. I managed to remove the assembly and bring the broken parts over to Mark on a last minute whim who was more than happy to take a look into my rather unusual welding job request for him.
After assessing the damage, Mark told me that he could work on it same day for what I would consider an incredibly competitive price. He also told me that I could reduce the price even further by giving him a helping hand, which I did. He showed me some things about welding and we also talked about his background as a welder and about life. He's a great person and after talking to him, I can see why people recommend him highly.
After the welding was complete, he guaranteed me that the brake should be strong enough to last a long time and that if it ever broke that I could bring it back and he'd redo the weld. Although after reinstalling it in my car, I don't think that'll be necessary as the lever itself feels far stronger and sturdier than it has ever felt before.
I highly recommend Mark's business, Bay City Welding, for any welding projects you might have. I'm very impressed with his work and I know I'll be coming back if I need any other welding projects and/or metal repairs done.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Adam T.San Francisco, CA21Aug 6, 2022

I called for a small welding job and the person who answered the phone was very grumpy and mumbly. I had to repeat what I wanted several times(something very basic). Didn't seem like he wanted to do the work.

To be clear when I originally wrote 'cleanup' it related to touch up paint, not general clean up.

He got the job done relatively quickly and the welds in two spots are definitely solid. The price he charged was also very fair.
But note, as a welder - he doesn't do touch up after the fact. Cleanup and repainting is your responsibility.
Also, as a long-time, experienced welder, he doesn't take many precautions - so just be aware and avoid standing too close to the job site. - Dougie G.SoMa, San Francisco, CA02Oct 26, 2022
Great welding service. Mark did a wonderful job. I needed a special project and he accomplished it lickity split.

If you are looking for a responsive, generous and talented welder look no further! There truly is no job too small. Instead of paying $300+ on a new chair base, Mark offered to weld it for far far less than I was expecting. He's a great guy to work with!

I have a 150 year brass and wrought iron weather Vane that flew on my great grandfather's dairy barn. The brass horse is pocked with BB indents from my grandfather's BB gun.
The brass horse (vane) had lost its tail and the iron ordinals were in 5 parts (instead or 2). Leave it to Mark to take this mess and make it whole.
Great guy to work with. OG dude who delivers quality work for a very reasonable price. If you have a welding project....look no further.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Andrew D.Rockridge, Oakland, CA705May 29, 2022

Ordered a deposit box on Amazon to serve as a through-the-fence mailbox, but it wasn't deep enough to receive larger mail (4.25" depth). Now 10.25" after a cutting and welding job. Some metal got a little deformed from the heat, but the box now serves its purpose and the deformities are only visible behind the fence anyway. Mark was also willing to beautify the box a bit after the welding job with some silicone and spray paint, and even despite that extra labor his price was well below anyone else I talked to.
