TL;DR
My favorite Thai spot in town.
Spring Rolls = ONO (!!!)
Thai Red, Yellow, and Green Curry = ONO
Pad Siew = ONO
Thai Fried Rice = ONO
Chiang Mai Casserole = oh no
-----
I live right next to a Bangkok Chef, but I always make the trek to Chiang Mai instead for Thai food.
There is a parking lot with a limited number of spaces behind the restaurant. If it's full, there's usually street parking within a block of the restaurant.
I've been taking out from Chiang Mai for over a year now, but just a couple weeks ago was the first time I actually dined in the restaurant. My MIL, wife, daughter, and I finally visited to celebrate my MIL's retirement. There was no issue making a reservation online, and the staff was friendly and attentive throughout our meal.
The spring rolls are an absolute must order. There's not much more to say other than if you aren't ordering the spring rolls you are doing yourself a disservice.
My family's typical order includes two types of curries (red, yellow, and green are all wonderful), pad siew (love the thick noodles here), thai fried rice (mmmmmm), and then one or two add-on dishes depending on how we're feeling. We decided to try the Chiang Mai Casserole for the first time and were sadly disappointed. I think the word "casserole" is misused here; it's more of a noodle dish (think Thai seafood long rice). It just wasn't our jam. Everything else, however, was fantastic.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Went on a hunt for Thai food tonight. The place I wanted to try was booked with 2 private parties so looked for alternatives on Cooke street which has 2 Thai restaurants about 2 blocks apart. We decided against them since we couldn't find parking. One looked "too funky" and the other had homeless residences in front so we decided on a tried and true favorite Chiang Mai.
Tonight we had :
Thai yellow curry
Eggplant with beef
Chiang Mai Curry Noodle
Cashew Chicken
(Oops! Only took two pix due to hunger.)
Everything was good except for the cashew which was just ok but lacked oomph. We appreciated the pleasant and friendly service especially by the new owner, Kissa, who has taken over from his late father. Always enjoy returning to this place where we have taken many visitors for the food, service, decor, and free parking in the back.Helpful 5Thanks 5Love this 6Oh no 1Business owner information

What a cute little Thai restaurant called...Chiang Mai Thai Cuisine in the Moiilil community! The moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a warm welcome by friendly staff. Not just one...but a few. From this moment, I just knew we were going to have an AMAZ...ing dinner experience. Sure enough ...we DID! As we walked in, I felt as though I was in Thailand. Even though I have not been there. Lol, just the ambiance with the beautiful decor, beautiful art, and beautiful seating areas. I was so excited about the FOOD I forgot to take photos of the dining area. Maybe, you can when you visit? Hint, hint...
Here's the scoops on our dining experience:
Service: EXCELLENT-Friendly, efficient and quick
Food: AMAZING- delicious and memorable. My fave-the beef pad Thai
So if you are craving for delicious Thai food, go and hook them up! You'll thank me for that!Helpful 5Thanks 2Love this 7Oh no 0Business owner information

This continues to be our favorite Thai restaurant on island. I have been coming here for years-I mean a couple decades (or even a tad more). Being Thai, I'm pretty particular. I love all the decor and flavors of anything we order. It makes me feel like I'm in Thailand. We came last night on a Saturday evening with no reservations and despite there being a private event in the area we normally sit, we were seated immediately. They now have specials that are new to the restaurant as well as live music Friday and Saturday nights. I always order the same which is pad kee mao (still ordered), spring rolls vegetarian (still ordered), and panang curry but wanted to try something different. I ordered the khao soi and was not disappointed. I have tried others, albeit few Thai restaurants on island serve this, but I prefer Chiang Mai. I hope they incorporate this on the regular menu. I also tried the mango mai tai and it was delicious. The mr had massuman curry (hot and it was hot) which has always been his favorite. I think almost everyone that worked the floor came to our table multiple times to check on us. We felt very cared for. They have impeccable service and delicious food.
The only drawback is looking for parking which is not on them but we'd park 100 miles away just to come here.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Dec 22, 2021Previous reviewIt's been 7 years since my last review so time for an update.
Parking still poses a challenge but there is a small lot behind the restaurant.
We ordered beef pad kee mao to share but it was so good, the mr ate it all so I ordered a vegetarian $11.50 one for myself. The vegetarian was definitely sweeter but i added chili paste and vinegar and it evened it out. I've never had a pade kee mao that wasn't spicy but added chili paste was given. I'm not gonna like i did prefer the meat version (i don't eat meat) only because it had more noodles and less sweetness. I also ordered a vegetarian pineapple curry, the mr ordered beef massuman. The massuman although tasty, was more on the salty side. They definitely have a different cook from 7 yrs ago as the items ordered were a little different but tasty. We certainly weren't disappointed. And luckily we were given chili paste as even though I ordered mine medium, it all tasted very mild. The massuman had a really good kick to it though.
We're glad we came as covid had us not visiting here for a couple years. Hand sanitizer is on every table, they check for vax card and temp check. We arrived at 6:30pm on a Wednesday and were readily seated. By the time we left, it was pretty full.Apr 19, 2014Previous reviewI've never had the green papaya salad here and I am a lover of it. Unfortunately, it was only so-so. Heavier on the nam pla (fish sauce) and not much lime tang. I also like my papaya more smashed so all the flavors get inside the papaya not just sits around or under it. Not so here. :(
For green papaya salad that's yummy, go to Pho Tri. They add shrimp in theirs as well.Feb 18, 2014Previous reviewThe yummiest on the island. Our "go-to" place. Masuman curry has buttery potatoes and the meat falls off the fork. Panang curry is also good. Shrimp rolls are a must. If you ask for Thai hot, be forewarned as you will be on fire.
I also like ethnic places that play ethnic music. You won't hear rap in this restaurant. Lots of orchids and thai pillow seating if you sit window-side. Parking can be quite a challenge as there are only a few in the back. - Jul 2, 2023Updated review
Went to Chiang Mai for dinner. Portions are much smaller from the last time we were here, but this is post Covid life. Still worth the price.
The spring rolls are fried in rice paper. So delicious. I could eat this 3x a day, 7 days a week. It's light and addicting.
The curry was so dense with flavor. Sauce was thick and satisfying.
When you go, ask for Kevin. He is the best server! Enthusiastic and delightful!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0Business owner information

Sep 26, 2019Previous reviewHaven't been to Chiang Mai in years and what a delightful surprise to see that some things haven't changed, like the delicious food and ambiance. It was like returning to a comfortable spot.
Our server Kevin made the dining experience a memorable one. Sporting a magenta Mohawk, Kevin rocked from the moment he came to greet us at the table. He created a fantastic menu for us to enjoy within our pescatarian preference. The food was incredibly ORGASMIC to the taste buds. The blend of spices cannot be compared to other Thai restaurants.
The veggie spring rolls were made to crispy perfection, with a generous serving of fresh mint and lettuce. The dipping sauce had just the right amount of sweetness to enhance the flavor of the roll.
The green curry dish was so delicious. After devouring all the veggies, there was enough curry sauce left to enjoy with plain sticky rice. Yum!
The broccoli noodle dish was my favorite because of the texture of the noodles and the interesting blend of spices. A nice alternative to pad thai.
The eggplant salad was yet another dish worthy of having again. The red onions, green chili, fresh basil leaves, and spices along with the tender eggplants served on a bed of lettuce was simply beautiful in presentation and satisfying to the palate.
The whole fish with ginger was super delicious and should be eaten immediately if you enjoy crispy fish. Served with an abundance of crunchy vegetables, this dish was pretty awesome. Although tasty by its own merits, I wish it had more of a Thai based flavor to it.
And for dessert, we followed Kevin's lead in trying the 3-layered coffee ice cream over the usual mango sticky rice dessert and we're so glad we did! It was delicious!
Parking is located behind the restaurant or on the street.
Seating is spacious that you are able to enjoy conversations without having to whisper or speak loudly.
The restaurant is clean. There was an older gentleman who was tidying the restaurant. I wondered if it was a family member and thought it was a great idea to keep him busy and connected with the restaurant, consistent with the Asian tradition of caring for the elders. Food is served promptly by a pleasant staff who genuinely seemed to care about our dining experience. We were greeted upon arrival and bid farewell upon leaving. The staff really impressed us.
Price point is pretty good for the quality food served.
Next time you're near Chiang Mai, step in and enjoy the wonderful array of Thai cuisine. If you are lucky enough to have Kevin as your server, it will definitely be an awesome dining experience. Let him select the food and you too will walk out satisfied and planning your next meal at Chiang Mai.
We shall return to Chiang Mai soon! - 1624031166Jun 2, 2023
Last minute decision to eat here and glad I stopped by! I always wondered about this Thai restaurant next to Peace Cafe. The interior is very nice and quaint. The server we had was entertaining. He was professional but also knew how to crack jokes with us! As for the food, we ordered chicken pad Thai, green curry with sticky rice, and spring rolls. The spring rolls were crispy, crunchy, and tasty. I actually like the size of it which were mini and easier to wrap in lettuce. The pad Thai of course was tasty and arithmetic, and I loved the sticky rice with green curry. Prices are reasonable. Definitely will return to try more items here!
Plenty of parking on the street or behind in the lot. Bathroom is located outside where the lot is.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

5th Star for the extraordinary service and attitude from the staff, management and owner
My recent visit to Chiang Mai was nothing less than fantastic. The food is basic although I'm pretty sure if I asked for something special or different possibly not on the menu, they would do it. At that point and what you see on the menu is great!
Tables set for 2, 4, or 6. You could probably ask for a larger seating as they have an area toward the rear of the restaurant that could seat up to 10.
Clean interior, restrooms outside and parking available in their private lot. If the parking lot is full, you may find street parking on Algaroba, They have a $10 corkage if you want to bring your own wine and menu prices are very moderate and affordable
Go early because they get busy! This is a great local dining establishment. If you haven't been there; you're square! Get there soon ok?Helpful 43Thanks 1Love this 37Oh no 1 - 785493193Feb 18, 2023
We have ordered out a few times here, never ate in. To go orders are pretty easy if you find parking out front which we have. I find their curries sometimes too bamboo filled and the flavor takes over the whole dish. I have stumbled upon a fried noodle appetizer that is delicious: fried rice noodles with a chicken chutney and some really sweet sauce, chop suey mix for a healthy addition.
They also have sticky rice however it was missed on our last take out order. Overall a decent place to eat Thai in town and it has a good sit down area.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jul 5, 2023
I have been coming here for both dine in and take out and I can't believe I have never written a review. They are located on south king street with a small lot for about 6 cars in the back. There is also some street parking but be careful as the area is not the safest at night. We ordered a few dishes which included the spring rolls, green curry, pad siew, Tom kha gai, garlic shrimp and rice. We ordered the medium but if your a spice lover you can definitely go to hot. We had an amazing server who was cracking jokes all night and was very patient and thoughtful. The seating inside is very cute with great interior design. Definitely will be back!

Great food, excellent service. Was going to do the $5 bento truck across the street (I'd rate that 3 on food and $5 on price) but I love a good Thai restaurant.
Prices to me are like dinner prices, and there's no lunch menu.
I'd definitely come back, but will order more judiciously to manage cost.
