Great place
Internship (Former Employee) - Dulles, VA - February 1, 2024
The experience was not what I thought it would be. More warehouse work than learning about the company. Overall though it does seem like a great place to work.

Diesel Technician (Former Employee) - Mechanicsville, VA - January 23, 2024
I worked here for about a year. The shop atmosphere is good. Management was okay. Mandatory overtime was sometimes implemented. Bell rang for breaks and a 30 min lunch.

Good place to work
Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic (Former Employee) - Lynchburg, VA - January 22, 2024
They are a good company. I had an awesome experience there. The pay is good for the area, didn't like that a good chunk of my check went to insurance. Lots of good people there. Would definitely go back there in the future. Left for a higher paying job.
Pros
Good people, decent pay
Cons
Insurance ate up a lot of your check. Seemed to be a disconnect with management and customers

Field Technician/Dispatcher advisor (Former Employee) - Lynchburg, VA - January 3, 2024
Fantastic place to work. In the field you’re outside and get opportunities to represent the company. Hard work is always appreciated and rewarded. Working with your superiors on a daily basis via phone or email. Communication is always there for every employee. I wish I still worked with this company. I loved doing my job in the field and took pride making the customer satisfied and feeling a professional just took care of them. Carter is a leading corporation in the industry. Carter Machinery stresses safety for all of its employees. Carter Machinery cares about the customers and the Employees.

A great company that challenges your skills in order to grow
Parts/Service (Current Employee) - Salem, VA - November 5, 2023
As long as you show your team/management and HR that you are hardworking and determined, they're going to work with you the best they can. You're eligible for a raise at 90 day and 180 day plus your annual raise each year on top of bonuses . But of course raises are determined on performance and top out pays per dept. If you're the type of person that only puts in 30% of your work ethic, you're going to be disappointed in how your management and teams respond to you as well as your performance reviews. But you're the type of person that gives your 100 at work, the company will see that and they will treat you well.

Non sufficient
Service Technician (Former Employee) - Fishersville, VA - September 25, 2023
Management was strictly based on numbers not focused on the health or productivity of technicians blatantly favored technicians in every aspect of job especially those who didn’t have seniority but had connections

Not a great place to work
Shop Technician (Current Employee) - Lynchburg, VA - September 24, 2023
I currently work here and BE PREPARED FOR FAVORITES. Management constantly is not about to be found. If you aren’t loved by your supervisor you will be treated unfairly. Growth is very slow extremely small raises. Pay DOES NOT COMPARE TO OTHER SHOPS

Management and workplace culture:
Sales Representative (Current Employee) - Salem, VA - September 1, 2023
Excellent Executive Management Team. Benefits provided by Carter Machinery are excellent. Workloads are heavy but manageable. Good time management skills are a must. The industry offers exciting opportunities and challenges. The workplace culture is good however there are issues with the older female employees and those that have been with the company for extended periods. There is a huge coaching opportunity with these employees to assertively review the core values of the company and appropriate workplace behavior individually and towards other employees.

It was better when it was alban
Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) - Essex, MD - July 25, 2023
Extremely overworked and ego in management status is very toxic. Never understood how certain people up the ladder even deserve the positions that were given. Not earned.... Most interactions involving service to customers is unprofessional.
Pros
Overtime
Cons
Toxic work culture

Not the place for a family man
Warehouse Worker (Former Employee) - Lynchburg, VA - July 15, 2023
If you have kids steer clear because this place wants you to work ridiculous hours and gets upset when you need to leave at the end of your shift to care for your children.

Good pay, odd management practices.
Parts Counter Sales (Former Employee) - Chesapeake, VA - April 19, 2023
Can overall be a great place to work. But it's who, not what, you know that gets you anywhere. Management is very disconnected from the people they oversee.
