OBITUARY: W.O. John Charles Burris, 20, of El Dorado, was killed in action May 31 in Vietnam. He was born August 30, 1949, in El Dorado, the son of Col. Rupert Hugh and Julia Jo Hastings Burris. He was a helicopter pilot with the U.S. Army, and served with the 120th Division Co Light and the 165th Air Group First Aviation Brigade. He had been in Vietnam approximately 10 months. He was a member of the Cloverdale Baptist Church in Montgomery, Ala. Survivors include his parents of Honolulu, Hawaii; two sisters, Mrs. Gary C. Walton of Tucson, Ariz., and Miss Clarice Burris of Hawaii, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hastings and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas A. Burris, all of El Dorado. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in Young's Chapel. Dr. Don B. Harbuck and Maj. Joseph E. Galle, chaplain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery with full military honors. The family will be at the Charles Hastings residence at 1400 W. Main St.
