Obituary of Daniel James Flanigan, Jr.
LUGOFF – Daniel James Flanigan, Jr., whose passion in his later years was serving those in need, died of natural causes October 2, 2018 at his residence in Lugoff, SC. He was 58. Born October 23, 1959, he was the son of the late Daniel James Flanigan, Sr. and Saundra Marie Lineberger Derosier, who survives him. He attended Ohio State University, majoring in math, and worked most of his career in the printing industry. After his retirement, he worked with a variety of non-profit organizations including Emmaus, Epiphany, and Kiaros ministries. He was also a dedicated volunteer at Transitions Homeless Center, where he logged more than 300 hours serving lunch in the facility’s kitchen over the past 18 months. “Dan was one of our most dedicated volunteers,” said Rosemary Jones, who worked alongside him in Transitions’ kitchen. “He was trusted, respected, dependable, and truly a humble servant. I am not sure we will ever be able to find someone to fill his shoes. He was special to us, the clients, and those who served with him. ”Dan was a voracious reader, chess player, and a karate expert, winning many trophies, including first place in the South Carolina Seishin-Kai tournament. He attended Elevation Church in Columbia. In addition to his mother, Dan is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lauren Flanigan; her mother, Cindy Flanigan, as well as stepsons, Jeremy R. Buzzard and Jason L. Buzzard; siblings, Kelly Cook, Robin Flanigan, Shawn Flanigan, Jeff Derosier, Michelle Derosier, Jessica Flanigan, Dylan Flanigan and Coleman Flanigan; loving Paw Paw of five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
