Brookwood Medical Center

Navigating this hospital is confusing-especially for a first time visitor. I kind of know how to get around now because I've been here multiple times this year. Also, KNOW YOUR BENEFITS if you come here. I knew that the X-ray services that were ordered for me were not subject to a deductible or co-pay, but they were trying to make me pay several hundred dollars. I told them I work for my insurance company and I know my benefits so I wasn't going to pay something that they'd have to refund me. This said they'd bill me later. Guess what? No bill because the claim processed with $0 patient responsibility.

As for service, all the providers I encountered were very nice and took the time to thoroughly explain results, procedures, etc.

Go to any other ER. Woman next to me has been waiting for 6 hours, family across from me has been waiting for 4 hours, and a woman with an active allergic reaction has been here for 3 hours. Front desk is more concerned with clocking in/out and watching videos on their phone. Wasted my time completely!

I do not recommend this emergency room. My 77 year old dad waited for two hours with shortness of breath and chest pains. No one even let us know how long the wait might be, I asked multiple times and nobody ever checked with the triage nurse. We finally left and came to Grandview and it has been night and day as far as how much better our experience has been. Also, Brookwood ER was 40 degrees. Just unacceptable.

I want to thank all the Medical staff from Brookwood, Dr Hasabnis and his group, Recovery, Heart Holding Area. I call Brookwood, My Brookwood Family and they help you feel this way. I highly recommend this Hospital for your Medical Needs.

My husband was admitted with active gall bladder attack because they were going to do a hydrascan to see if he needed surgery. After four days, we were told he would NOT get the scan because in the event he needed surgery, no surgeon was willing to operate on him as he is on dialysis and has another issue. They DID however suggest we let him die in hospice. They released, or shall I say DUMPED him with severe pain and nausea with a warning that should it rupture he probably would be denied emergency surgery.

Not only will I NEVER go here but I will NOT consult with any doctor who has privileges here.

A qualified, competent surgeon would not turn a back on a sick patient especially if the risk involved is death if surgery is NOT performed. Are there any such surgeons in the State of Alabama? Definitely not at this hospital. God sees.

Kim, RN , SICU, 4th Floor, Brookwood Hospital, provided outstanding patient's care to my mom last night. When I left her room at 10pm, I felt she would be well taken care of based on Kim's thoughtful deameanor. My mom was very relaxed this morning at 8 am (unlike, the previous morning). She was very cleaned and looked good. Kim is a very caring, courteous, and respectful individual who put her patients first. She was always looking for ways to make my mom more comfortable. Also, the other nurses are providing great service and are very respectful, like Katie, Bethany, Dahlia, Abi, Jessie, Nick, Kristi, Stephen, Judy, Haley and Kyle, just to name a few.

So far, I've had quick and easy experiences at BMC! For both surgery and OB-ED visits they were timely, kind, and helped ease my anxiety.

On April 25 I had a surgery at Brookwood Hospital. I will admit I was a little anxious about having the surgery there. The reviews were so negative.But I couldn't have been more pleased with the care I got there.From Admitting desk to Recovery Room was fantastic! My OR team was also great! The nurse in my room was fabulous! Britton and Jeanna were both so good!I could not ask for better care! Thanks for all you do! Debbie Gohn

I had a colonoscopy here at ADHEC and while my doctor was fine and the procedure was fine, I somehow aspirated during the procedure. This despite the fact that I had stated on several occasions that i had a problem with the anesthesia the last time. Didn't wake up right away and slept the whole day away afterwards.

On this occasion, I woke up and was coughing like crazy and my throat really hurt. The anesthesiologist said she had to suction me a lot. I kept coughing up whole mouthfuls of fluid. She finally gave me the suction so i could suction my own mouth out every time I coughed.

Despite this, no red flags seemed to go off with her and I was sent home anyway. Long story short, I wound up in the ER where a CT scan confirmed that I had aspiration pneumonia. Had to spend a few days in the hospital getting IV antibiotics.

Still paying off all the medical costs my insurance didn't cover. So, no I do not recommend ADHEC to anyone.
