Social and Human Service Assistant (Former Employee) - Warrenton, NC - April 13, 2017
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWell I only worked 3 hours a day. I would come in right before school let out to prepare for my time there. I would get out necessary materials for that days lesson. After school students were released they would come in and I would assist with homework. Homework was mandatory first, then computer lab, lesson for that day, and gym. The time went by pretty fast. It was fun at times and very stressful as well.
Pros
free lunches, abundance of toys & games
Cons
healthcare, hours, organization

It’s a good place to work, but not good money
Youth Development Assistant (Current Employee) - Streamwood Illinois - April 22, 2024
It’s a really good place to work and I like it, the only thing is the amount of hours and money. It is pretty easy to get the hang of and you are able to ask anybody for help at any time which is great.

Fun job!
Youth Development Professional (Former Employee) - Springfield, MO - April 22, 2024
I made many staff friends and loved supporting kids at the club! I would suggest for adults who are in college who need work in the afternoon. Highly recommend!

The work environment for me is relaxed and the culture is good What is a typical day like for you at the company? Noisy because of the kids running around and playing a lot and then they’re quiet moment during their home work time and activities.

It was different but because of my love of children I would have stayed.
Early Learning Teacher (Former Employee) - Reno, NV - April 19, 2024
What is the best part of working at the company? My training from day one was….no training except of course how to change diapers. I loved the kids but when I was suspended for something I didn't do or had the correct knowledge about I got upset and my voice was loud. Then my suspension turned into Termination. The kids lose because I was one who enjoyed being with them and they learned from me. I miss the babies so much but will never work In child care again. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The constant change of rules. And feeling like a pain when I had to use the restroom while other teachers played on their phones. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Constant change and high turnover. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Never the same but the babies made it worth it.

Energy taxing with little to no support or training
Group Leader (Current Employee) - Escondido, CA - April 17, 2024
In this job you can feel drained and unappreciated as well as underpaid. Employees working in the fast food industry are paid more that employees for the BGC. On top of that you receive little to no training when you begin. You can have up to 20 students to watch over and take care of from anywhere K-5.
Pros
Flexible schedule
Cons
Difficult/ draining work

Atmosphere
Coordinator (Current Employee) - Gainesville, GA - April 17, 2024
The atmosphere is okay.... It could be better for a place that promotes positivity and "a place where great futures start." There is always a run around with the chain of command. Needs more clear/detailed communication between area managers and staff. The employees here want to be treated more like someone who is trying to help fulfill the mission statement other than being treated like a "body" (someone who is just there to fulfill ratio needs). Do not think about asking for a raise or to be acknowledged by the company. Your concerns seem to only matter when you bring them up and a solution seems rare to come by.

Fulfilling but Boring
Graduation Specialist (Current Employee) - Wisconsin - April 17, 2024
The work itself is fulfilling and it feels good to help struggling kids, but there are gaps in the day with nothing to do so it can get boring. If you don’t mind the slower pace, it’s great.

Kids are great but so much work drama
Camp Counselor (Former Employee) - Clifton, NJ - April 17, 2024
I worked here for about a year and a half during the pandemic and I can honestly say I never met more unprofessional ever. So much drama and rumors. I got fired for a rumor and I got no explanation or proof of why I was being fired. I just got told it was going to be my last day. I also don’t like how they don’t do background checks on a lot of the employees. The pay isn’t the best. And the bosses don’t pay attention to complaints from employees unless it becomes a problem for them.

Where I found my passion
Director (Former Employee) - Guadalupe, AZ - April 16, 2024
I love this Club and love this community. I was given chances to thrive and grow. They like to promote from within, so when another opportunity came up, I was incouraged to apply.

Horrible
Lead Teacher (Former Employee) - Yankton, SD - April 13, 2024
The FT staff are cliquey and just all around not pleasant. Other coworkers were a joy to work with and I did make some great friends even though the FT staff don’t want that.

Frustrating
Team Leader (Former Employee) - Florida City, FL - April 12, 2024
What is the best part of working at the company? The relationships you form with the kids. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? High ups don’t really listen or care about staff members. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Stressful and overwhelming. No training is given and no help is offered

Fun, energetic, and rewarding.
Youth Mentor (Current Employee) - Anchorage - April 10, 2024
It’s a fun, energetic, and rewarding work environment, so long as you enjoy children and possess patience. As a youth mentor you deal with any and all problems the kids may have, so it’s important that you are emotionally available for them and can problem solve on your feet.

Low pay for expectations
YDP (Current Employee) - Thurston County, WA - April 10, 2024
Beware the pay is minimum wage, but the expectation is high. Working and dealing with a wide range of kids can be difficult and care expectations are high,as they should be.

Can be fun, has its agonizing days but which job doesn’t, I wish staff would do a bit better
Program Specialist (Current Employee) - Port Saint Lucie, FL - April 5, 2024
Typical day is pretty easy and chill as long as you’re pretty patient, management can be pretty tricky with communication, some of the staff can also be a bit difficult to deal with, but the pay is pretty good for the area.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
Barely any communication

Fun
Helper (Former Employee) - Texas - April 5, 2024
I loved this job, it had good work/life balance It was very rewarding. Good job for high school age kids. They were very flexible with their time off. During the summer you were able to work full time since the kids weren’t in school.

Do not work here
Anonymous (Former Employee) - Springfield, MO - April 4, 2024
I worked here for a while and there is so much drama that goes on in the workplace. It’s like high school all over again. Management doesn’t do anything about issues including harassment. The pay is also horrible. Not worth it! Work somewhere else!
Pros
Time off during the day
Cons
Pay, mental health, benefits, management

Great Part Time
Youth Development Professional (Current Employee) - Farmville, NC - April 3, 2024
I work at a location in North Carolina. The pay is good, and it's a nice part-time job because it is only after school. Our location is only open when the schools are open, which gives you extra time off here and there. Summers are super long hours though; it basically switches from a part-time to a full-time.

BGC presents challenges related to managing expectations, limited resources.
Program and Coaching Coordinator (Former Employee) - Waukegan, IL - April 2, 2024
What is the best part of working at the company? Horrible place to work! My experience with the Boys and Girls Club was incredibly disappointing and left me with a negative impression overall. The staff members were unprofessional and seemed disinterested in their jobs. They lacked enthusiasm and failed to create a welcoming environment for the children. It felt like they were just going through the motions without any genuine care or concern for the well-being of the kids. Furthermore, the programs and activities offered were lackluster and uninspiring. There was a lack of variety and creativity, and it seemed like the same repetitive activities were being recycled week after week. It was evident that little effort was put into planning engaging and enriching experiences for the children. Overall, my experience at the Boys and Girls Club was highly disappointing. I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a positive and nurturing environment for their children. It's clear that there are significant improvements needed in terms of facility upkeep, staff training, and program development. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Employees at the Boys & Girls Club often wear multiple hats, taking on roles such as mentor, educator, counselor, and administrator. Managing these diverse responsibilities can be overwhelming at times.

Good experience
Program Assistant (Former Employee) - Sacramento, CA - March 30, 2024
I enjoyed working with the children and great experience to gain right after post undergraduate. Supervisor was helpful, but still low pay for amount of expectations
