Interview
I was contacted by a HR individual on LinkedIn for a phone interview. After our phone interview, I had an hour phone interview with the hiring manager, and then I was asked to come in for an in-person meeting. The atmosphere was....off. They apparently have no receptionist, so I stood in the doorway for about 15 minutes trying to get someone's attention to ask for the HR person I was supposed to meet (good thing I was early!) and most of the people there just ignored me until one finally helped me out. I wasn't about to go striding into an unknown office and poke my head around looking for HR. It's a very small, open floor plan office, and my interview was in a conference room.
The people I interviewed with, the hiring manager and the person who I'd be replacing, weren't that friendly. The person who I'd be replacing was a bit rude and the hiring manager seemed bored. They weren't that engaging and it left with a sour view of the company and made me feel uncomfortable, like they didn't even want me there.InterviewThere was a 45 minute working session followed by a 45 minute chat. A lot of the questions were about what I would do to create a new project or how I would improve current systems. Nothing too out of the ordinary, but these sessions always make me wary because sometimes it feels like an employer is just trying to get outside ideas to use for free under the guise of an interview. There weren't many questions about my experience and skills, but rather what my current and past companies (who are their competitors) were doing and how it differed or succeeded/failed compared to their processes. It definitely made it feel like they were trying to get inside information.
