About the Author

Billy Anders had 31 years experience as an outstanding police officer, five of them as a SWAT commander; 28 years as a decorated military officer; a Master's degree in Administration of Justice. He's a graduate of the FBI National Academy. His first 23 years were with the San Antonio, Texas, Police Department, where he finished his career as a Captain; the final period as a Sergeant/ mountain deputy with the Otero County Sheriff's Office, working in and near the Sacramento Mountain village of Cloudcroft, New Mexico. During all that time, his best job ever was flying Foxtrot, the helicopters of San Antonio's police aviation unit. It was a Mississippi country boy's dream come true! An Honest Account Of The "Best Job Ever"

Not knowing a whole lot about helicopters except for I thought they were really cool, it tweaked my curiosity to read about them and learn how they play a key role to help police officers observe from above to serve and protect. It sounds like some days were pretty exciting and fun! This book offers many interesting real life, enjoyable and comical stories from the author and who better to write the stories then the officer that flew the helicopter. It’s easy to see flying was a dream come true. You will also read about other aircraft and how the love of aviation was passed down to family members. Billy Anders pays special tribute to many of his friends and fellow officers in blue which I thought was a nice thing to do. I am extending the same thanks to all police officers.
Another good and well written book by Billy Anders. Thank you for sharing your memoirs.

Billy Anders provides a visual example of "an officer and a gentleman." His writing brings the reader into the cockpit and along for the exciting, and often the humorous side of policing. The helicopter unit in San Antonio has grown from its humble beginnings into a full-time professional and respected unit, in large part due to the hard work and dedication of officers like Billy. The officers on the streets of San Antonio today could not imagine trying to do their jobs without the support of the air units and their pilots.

This is a great read for anyone wishing to know a bit about the inner workings of a police helicopter unit, its history and the men and women assigned there. Billy Anders is the right guy to tell this story. He is as honest and humble as any officer to do the job; respected by all who know him.
