American Portfolio was founded in 1996 by Paul Kessel and Scott Vorreyer. The business focused on buying and selling pools of mortgages in the secondary market. In 2007, they grew the business and began investing in seasoned mortgages. At the same time, they began offering loan originations to the retail market.

They envisioned a company of respected and successful real estate and banking professionals, pooling their collective talents and expertise. Working together to capitalize on that synergy, the group would form the solid backbone for the company’s future. Kessel and Vorreyer carefully chose professionals from their years in those industries, building a formidable team of experts in their fields.
