Whats the differance between allstate and allstate indemnity?

I currently have insurance through allstate indemnity. I just bought a new car and my quote skyrocketed, so I am looking for a cheaper alternative. Not too hard to find since I was paying more then I should have been in the first place. Geico was pretty cheap. My fiancee went to allstate to check a quote(this was before we bought the car) to see what our rate would change to. Well it was a lot less then we where currently paying, which was odd. I realized she had gone to allstate, not allstate indemnity.

I realize they are not the exact same company, but there has to be some sort of relationship between the 2, yet allstate is appriximately 50% lower then allstate indemnity. I just don't understand how they can be that much differant.

Thanks for the bump man. I have been playing on allstates site with quotes and all. If I tell them my current insurance is with allstate indemnity, they say "thank you for being an allstate customer, please call your local agent to modify coverage". I did check the agent locator and my agent is listed on the regular allstate site.

Yet if I choose another company as my current insurance provider, it lets me continue my quote. If I use the same coverages I have now, I get a 6 month quote of about 7xx.xx dollars for 6 months. I don't remember exactly what it was. I recently got my updated info(bought a new car)from allstate indemnity. They are quoting me 14xx.xx for the same 6 month period, same cars, same coverages. I have a clean driving record for the last 5 years. My fiancee has been in 1 accident and had 1 speeding ticket, I am not entirely sure on the date of the accident, but it was in June of 2000, so it should be off or close to being off.

I just don't see, how if they are the same company, one can be quoting almost double the other. I am gonna have to call and talk to them I guess. I don't really know who to call though. I can't really call my agent. Well I could, but then what do i say? "Hey I got an online quote from allstate for almost half what you quoted me, whats the deal?" I mean if her accident is still on there, what other thing(s) could be so differant as to double my quote?

Wait a minute, I forgot something, the quote I am getting from allstate online is not the same coverages. MY current coverages are the minimums. 12500/25000 Liability, 7500 property damage, 500 deductibles for coll. and comp, and 12500/25000 for uninsured motorist.

The lowest coverages allstate online has is 15000/30000, 10000, same 500 deductibles, and 15000/30000 for the uninsured. So first off I don't see why allstate inemnity can offer lower coverages if they are the same company. And with allstate offer more coverage, the just makes me wonder even more why they are so much cheaper.

Just ran the full quote on allstate, 6 month premiums would be 723.72

ON top of which, if I add renters insurance for 20000 coverage ate a premium of 130.00 per year, my auto goes down to 667.30 for 6 months.

Just got off the phone with allstate, they said they can't give me a quote since i already have insurance with them. So they are indeed the same exact company. The guy gave me some line about the online quotes not taking credit and prior loss info into account. Our credit is excellant, and we have not had any losses(at least I assume that means insurance claims) in the past 5 years. I did have a renters insurance claim about 6 years ago, and we have had a couple accidents, but as I said, those where all 5+ years ago.

Looks like I will be going with Geico then.

I am not sure that its actually for high risk, but it is thier lower end of insurance. I called them back again later and lied and said my current carrier was progressive. So I got a quote from them, they said I qualified for at least thier premier discount, but most likely should qualify for thier highest premier plus discount. The quote he gave me was higher then the online quote I got, but still 400-500 less then I pay now. Not sure why we are still stuck on indemnity. When we originally got the insurance, my fiancee did have a few accidents on her record and I had one. So I undertsand that. But as of now, we have no accidents in the last 5 years and only 1 minor violation. The guy from allstate said no accidents for 5 years and 1 or less minor violations in the last 3 years is good enough for the premier plus discount. So I think they just originally had us on the indemnity and just never took us off of it. But I think we are switching to Geico. They also gave me a quote of roughly half what I pay now, and for better coverage. Hopefully thiers is accurate. I was assured it was by one of thier people onthe phone, so we will see.
