Troubleshooting the VAN9001 or VAN 9003 Error on Windows 11 | VALORANT

This article applies only to Windows 11 users.

About Secure Boot and TPM 2.0

Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and Secure Boot are security technologies that allow Windows 11 to boot programs using a higher standard of trust and safety. As such, Vanguard requires these two features to be running before recognizing a system's trusted state.

If Secure Boot or TPM 2.0 is disabled in Windows 11, VALORANT will not properly launch, and players will be greeted with a VAN9001 or VAN9003 error:

How to check if your system supports Secure Boot and TPM 2.0

Before doing anything else, let’s make sure these technologies are supported on your system.

Verify whether Secure Boot is supported and enabled
  1. Press the Windows key.
  2. Type msinfo32 and press Enter. The System Information window opens.
  3. In the left panel, click System Summary
  4. Scroll down the panel on the right and look for these values:
    • The BIOS Mode value should be UEFI
    • The Secure Boot State value should be On.
      • If it's Off, then it's turned off, and you can re-enable it if you feel comfortable doing so. (See the troubleshooting section below.)
      • If it's Unsupported, then it's not supported by your hardware. You should check with your hardware manufacturer to learn your options.

  3. If TPM is unsupported or not enabled, you will see something like this:

    If TPM is supported
, you will see something like this:

    • Status: The TPM is ready for use.
    • Specification Version: 2.0

IMPORTANT: About editing your BIOS settings

If you’re not familiar with navigating through your BIOS, please reach out to a professional. Incorrectly configuring BIOS settings can cause issues with your computer–including having it fail to start up.

On top of this, the BIOS is highly variable depending on the brand and type of computer or motherboard you are using. As such, we highly recommend that you reach out to your computer or motherboard manufacturer's support resources to assist you with this.
